K24 everytime for me but you will need big injectors and pump to make it worthwhile otherwise you will have big lag. Not impressed at with garrets, KKK's are much better made. I am also considering a vnt 17.

K14s or T3 garretts don't seem to give more than 15 psi or so... maybe I'm missing a trick.

Std. wastegate setting for a JX is about 8 to 10 psi

i checked the turbo for play yeaterday too, seamed like a lot to me, so waitin for it to die

If you haven't checked one before then don't jump, the shaft will have maybe 20 ~40 thou play - 0.050 to 0.10 " is worn, by then you'll know anyway, due smoke or oil dripping even pouring out, or worse - oil pressure reduction

Any old trubo is no good unless it has flange fitings that suit, unless you make up an adapter stub

oil
funny you should say that

ive been getting oil covering the turbo, and round the back, i asumed it was pulling it through the oil breather which connects close to inlet of turbo, so i have dissconected it, and fitted small breather filter instead

where do i connect oil prssure switch too, think i need to see what thats doin then, my boost guage flutters at tick over when warm, is that right??

 :?:

Yes, don't woryy about boost, even with knackered turbo bearings it'll still boost... if the boost gauge sticks or lags that might be oil in the boost line.

Connect a temporary gauge to anywhere there is an oil sender port in the oil gallery/circuit... bearing in mind where you connect will affect readings.. and test cold AND hot.

The top of the filter housing often has a 10mm x1 or 1/8 NPT port, blanked off on some of those VW housings.
Back of the cyl head, pressure tap, this will be lower.

For permanent an electrical sender might just fit (they're a bit bulky) in the oil buzzer switch port on the filter housing, but then need a sender type with a switch take-off as well to connect back up to BODoom.

Check Wiki, should be a bit in ther on oil press measuring and senders for diesels.

They will with lots of fuel.
