Here's a little perspective for ya..

A very good friend of mine recently told me that right from when he was 2 years old his Dad used to beat him, sexually abuse him and lock him in a cupboard all night in the dark and that spiders used to crawl on his face when he was asleep (hence his pathological fear of spiders, which was what we were talking about at the time). His Mum was an alcoholic and didn't care enough to stop the abuse or leave the Dad.

He's been a drug addict (now rehabbed) and suffered from depression & low self esteem all his life and is really only just now, at age 40+ coming to terms with himself and starting to enjoy his life a little.

Before you offer, as I did, to throw his Dad from a tall building, no need as he did it himself a while back..or so my friend says. It could be that this is a mechanism he uses to give himself closure and that he really doesn't know what became of his Dad, I'm not sure. I imagine it must be difficult to sleep, thinking that he might be still out there somewhere.

Now go kiss your Dad folks. Better still, take him out for a pint of whatever he likes and listen to some of his same-old same-old stories for a while.

Too right - I luvs me dad & i'm lucky to have a dad to luv!

I went to work on the cupboards yesterday & i've straightend most of it out, just the worktops & the doors to do now then fit it all in properly.

i just want to get the van on the road and ready to use now, i can't wait to camp in it for the 1st time & i might even take my dad along

Make sure you put masking tape on the cutting line of the laminate top...but turn it upside down so the blade cuts up into the laminate, that way it does'nt burst out and splinter everywhere....good luck

Better than that, you can get "down-cut" blades for jigsaws. The trouble with jigsaws though is that they are difficult to get a straight cut with, so they're useful for cutting shapes, but not straight lines.

For straight lines in worktop, a circular saw is king - and cheap enough at B&Q too. Upside-down cutting is best, but mine seems to get away lightly the right way up anyway. Clamp a thin strip of wood to the side to guide the saw.

If it was me, I'd have to keep it, wonky and all as your Dad has made this with love. Over time you'll either get use to it and maybe even like it for its quirkiness or you could slowly straighten things out one door at a time. He wouldn't notice and it's gonna give you so many laughs down the pub talking about it!
My Dad for no reason at all made me a wooden sawing horse (if that's what you call them) and it's like a test-job from a blind convict. Can I get rid of it? No way, it just lives in my garage and makes me smile everytime see it! Let us all know what you do!
