Bit different comparing a 2L Aircooled with 70 bhp to a Jag V12 thats prob tuned to hell and pushing 300 bhp... But what would I know..
I agree each engine is different but lets see where the base line is...

Looks like I should shut up...
But before I do... pop over and help him get it running as best he can Andy? I would but its bit of run and I am stuck werkin in Holland at the mo....

that would be a good idea
had it tuned 2 months ago and was advised to use engine flush to lube the hydrolic tappets which I did then adjust them which I did and it does run better
but what ever i can get outta it would be better than what im getting now
still interested in going for a better engine such as td / tdi, dont know if scooby would give me much benefit ???? due to size and weight of van

Its about the same power per litre, the jag v12's are just heavy noisy snails a bit like the 2 litre air cooled really.

You would be surprised by the scooby and it fits nice due to shape being the same.

You won't win any drag races but will be better than the 2litre Aircooled otherwise known as an anchor. I think the 2.2 is the one to go for.

The EJ22 has oodles of torque, probably reaches the WBX's max at 1500rpm and goes up from there, plenty of torque graphs around...
... and don't forget, its not just engine torque that matters but actual driven wheel torque which is engine torque multiplied by gear ratio !

so would be well worth looking at what gearbox i have as well
Ive heard of a few companies doing adaptors etc
which are the best

Adapters for the Subie?
There's two really, the KEP (US) adapter plate method and the RJES (UK) bellhousing, which marries almost any Subie to any VW gearbox - all in Alt Engines, just read up on it:-

Having done a TDI conversion, I can assure you its not a straight swap job. (and I took the poor mans route of using a mechanical pump! which is easier & cheaper)
I have to agree with peoples comments, My converstion was from 1.9 waterboxer to 1.9 TDI.....and that provided more than enough head aches.. so to convert from Aircooled to watercooled will need all manor of parts, head scratching, time & money.....
For long term ownership, you will need to do something with the gearbox...my tdi will rev through all 5 gears to almost 80mph in an instant, with Tdi motors, standard T25 box's are under geared...when Im in 5th, I feel like I could change up to 6th if you know what I mean !!!
I would look at your 2ltre engine....perhaps consider a rebuild, diffrent cam choice??? You dont need massive carbs if you want pure low down grunt & torque..... Most 2 litre motors are tired having never been appart since they left the factory 25 years ago.......
