Thanks again Clint.
Transpires the rear mount, correct diesel one, was on upside down, the small recess was by the lower mounting not the upper, the selector cup was right and when all repositioned the selector ball was all in the cup when in neutral. Something which may help others when figuring out their set up.
The new rod bushes that had been fitted were quite tight but when lubricated with graphite oil now move smoothly, if a little tight for swift changing, usage will no doubt help here.
Very pleased with the result, no cost and a firm and secure link set up.
One thing I have noticed is the adjustment at the centre is fully retracted so no more manoeuvre.
The previous owner had repositioned the rear cup with an extra hole for the retaining pin. Presumably because he felt there was not enough room to adjust. I hope this hasn’t weakened the rod enough to cause problems.
