Slightly expensive, but a good thing to get done sooner or later.
Find a cheaper good welder before you need one and be prepared for the next job.

So the outcome of this for anyone interested……
The garage carried out an independent inspection of the camper and the inspector agreed that the tester shouldn’t have tested the door step like he did.
After emails back and forth with the owner, it was agreed “because I had benefitted from the work being carried out” and also that they didn’t stand to gain, as they did not carry out welding work there, that he would refund me half of the money.
The inspector had also carried out an MOT at the same time, not finding the same issues as the previous guy, but at least that’s sorted for another year. Will be going back to my usual garage when that time comes around!
