Looks Like the plate wins, thanks chaps, added bonus is I don't have to drill any extra holes and the manky old rust stained parts get covered.

couple of high density blocks on the roof to compress the seal so that I can mark the position to drill the plate
these are M4 stainless clinch studs that sit flat on the other side, cut down to 7mm long with stainless dome nuts and threadlock
fitted with the trifold rivets
catch fitted with M4x20 stanless screws and stainless nyloc nuts, has nylon spacers behind to spread the load and enables me to file radius where it meets the corner where needed.
Something I hadn't realised when you drop the roof the catch hangs down and gets under the seal so needs storing up, it hold it's self up there nicely.
not so good on the other Fiamma side because it hits the fiamma when swinging down
So I shortened the catch by bending the spring part, ran out of time so fit this side tomorrow.
