Shims and retainer with which to pack the gap to rid the end float.

Ok so do I simply push and pull the crank making a note of the movement?
The engine on LPG feels like its holding back untill the rpm reaches 2400 then it really pushes the van along.
I presume this is a mixture issue?
Final niggle.
I have a ticking tappet, it's not loud but it's there.

Lifters were empty, so I set them at 1.5 turns in and ran for half an hour
All went quiet except one I thought.
Checked all at TDC and found one with some clearance (.06)so I turned it in again 1.5 from touching. (So thats 3 turns from initial dry setting)
Still get this tick.
Rechecked all at TDC and they are solid pumped up lifters
Using 10w/40 semi at the moment
I have read to put them all at 0 lash and run it to remove any trapped air (Boston Bob)
Any ideas questions welcome.
Thanks for looking

Just did me an endfloat on the old engine and the results were as expected.
There's, 0.8mm play
If the allowed movement is it .15
Then I need a .30 + .38 shims to bring it into spec
Or is this amount of wear too much

Looking at the E D I T now:
Are you saying that the endfloat is 0.8mm with no shims ?
I thought you would measure it with the shims that were fitted to assess the original condition.

normally measure with shims in then subtract shims thickness to establish what you need but
0.8 float means shims will be knackered so you can't rely on their measurement.
If this is the case you have to buy some new ones and then measure then buy some more.

.. but measuring with existing shims will indicate how much endfloat the engine was running with and could indicate where the oil leak was coming from, as the flywheel wasn't grooved.

you may end up finding 3x0.4 shims is stil not enough and 1x 0.4 and three other shims is too much if this is the case you need to change the thrust washer on the outside, you buy them as a pair the one inside you can't change without splitting case.

Ok
My bad
I have measured wrongly
Ok so with the flywheel on and all the shims in I get 0.1
Which is ok.
Just a crap seal then
