I think you're into just general removal, inspection and cleaning of the connections, particularly the earths on the engine / gearbox.
I suspect that the leisure battery charging voltage is a little lower because the cable is thinner, so higher resistance
Clean them up & on the starter & I suspect the van will turn over quicker too. You could also replace them for new, or heavier duty new.

Thanks. Think that’s going to be my next job. Replace all the major earth points then maybe the power too

Replaced the battery earths now up to 14.1 volts

More questions about charging
I’m now getting 14.1 volts coming from the alternator to the leisure battery, but when measuring the battery when its charging its only measures 12.8 volts. It’s a brand new battery and measures 12.7 volts when not being charged.
I’m sure somethings wrong but for the life of me i have no idea what or why.

You were getting 13.9 volts before, so
Check connections are clean on the new battery, and where you are putting the test probes
Switch the fridge off
I seem to recall your fridge is connected to the starter battery, and there's about 1v volt drop by turning the fridge on.

I’ve replaced earths so I’m getting 14 to 14.1 volts to the starter battery and the leisure battery.
I’ve just replaced the old split Charging relay with another new 30 amp relay and I’m now getting 13.7 volts measured across the leisure battery when charging but still 14.1 volts when I measured what’s getting to the battery before the leisure battery is connected if that makes sense.
I’ve removed the fuse for the fridge and before I tried this new relay it made no difference to the reading.
I’m now thinking the old relay had seen its best
E D I T
Just replaced the old relay now getting 13.6 connected to and 14.1 unconnected

I'm don't think I am on your wavelength today and am a bit confused.
The starter battery was getting 13.9v before (assume you were measuring across the terminals engine running)
You changed the earths and you were getting 14.0-14.1v at the starter and leisure battery, all OK
Today you say you are only getting 12.8 volts at the battery "when charging".
Is that with a battery charger or engine running, leisure or starter battery
If you can clear my confusion I'll try & help

See my notes above, i think that might help?

Sorry I did read what you wrote above, and that's why I am confused
Can you answer my two questions and clarify what you mean by the bit I quoted ?

Yes i was getting 12.8 when charging the leisure battery measured across the battery when the charging wires are taken off the battery I get the full 14.1 volts engine running. however I get the full 14 volts at the starter battery all the time when charging ( engine running)
Is that with a battery charger or engine running, leisure or starter battery.

OK so engine running there's 14.1v across the battery terminals when they are not attached to the battery, but only 12.8v across the battery when they are attached.
That would seem to indicate a load being applied to the leisure battery, giving a voltage drop (this is to be expected) are you sure the fridge in particular is off ?

I removed the fuse for the fridge so I’m 100% its off. I think it maybe a relay issue, i changed the relay for a 30 amp relay and its improved to 13.7 volts
