Well buy a VW badge from JK & stick it on the front of the Winnie & you won't feel too guilty about driving a Yank tank.

Got mine back from the garage last night and it seems to be running a lot better.
From chatting with the mechanic, it seems to have been adjusted similar to Rozzollink described earlier.
Drove home 40 miles and it seemed a lot more responsive where it had previously seemed a bit flat.
For what its worth, (and excuse my lack of correct terminology) the bit that the water circulates around (the choke) has a bimetallic strip in as explained earlier. The mechanic (who knows his onions before anyone starts slagging him!) noticed this was bending the wrong way when warm, causing the choke to come on. This is crimped in place, so rather than trying to fiddle with it, he took the choke off and turned it through 180 Deg, thus the strip now causes the choke to go off when warm.
Voila, it seems to be working. I'll keep you posted if anything changes!

http://www.onlineconversion.com/fuel_consumption.htm this is a good conversion guide, you can do miles/litre to miles/gallon, can make distressing reading though

my average around town 14mpg best ever in France 60 -65 was 18mpg thank fluck for lpg

I noticed this post and printed off the info and had a go at twisting the part which the coolant Circulates around got the flap perfect nice and slack run nicely. But tried to get the air box pipe back on and it wouldn't fit i noticed i wouldn't have been able to get the engine cover back on

i fitted it with the air box on as close to it as i could. runs much better anybody know how to either modify the carb or the air box pipe to get the choke where i want it

Many Thanks Andrew Cull

hi m8
again going back to my old teenage days with fords,,, when i had this problem i would remove the bit with the pipes on completely (by removing the adjuster ring screws completely) and again the thing must be completely stone cold.once off you will see the bit on the back that slots to the choke flap shaft and bearing in mind that when the thing is cold it is at rest in the position its in and is something similar to a coiled clock spring but bi-metal, i would then make it come to rest in a different position by twisting carefully then letting go to see where it came to rest.(ie re-coiling the spring either looser or tighter so it stopped in a different position) care is needed not to break it but you can usually get it where you need it.
hope this helps

by the way this also applies to electric auto chokes on Aircooled engines, they just heat up with electrickery instead of water. remember the harder its on when cold,, the longer it will stay on and the more fuel you will use cos with the air inlet partially blocked by the choke flap, the suction is stronger below it so it sucks more precious juice through the carb jets.
happy tinkering

Ok Jen and Mark popped in today and i've looked (but not touched) it , mainly cos they are taking back to the garage that fitted the carb , didnt want the garage-person saying that someone had fiddled with it.
anyway there are a few little bits that arent right with the engine ,
one someone has put want looks llike a KnN filter on the oil tower

, and capped off the breather inlet from the tower to the carb so that wont be helping any,
also it has an after market oil temp / pressure sender on it the likes i have never seen fitted on a 25 , not saying its wrong, anyway its not wired up (yet) so cant really comment
t'other than that its a sweet little runner
good to meet ya both ( sorry and the kids

) , like i said mark pop around and well do a few bits on it

glad to help. back then loads of folks used to convert them to manual operation but when they're set up correctly they work ok.
manual conversions are still available if anyone wanted to go that route but i suppose you'd have to get a cable made up cos our engine is in the wrong end of the bus

indeed. Isn't this the de facto
'heavy breathing' mod
Seems to be a national outbreak of 180 degree choke twiddling happening - so, er, happy choke twiddling, get your bimetallic kicks here at club80-90

Erm.....NO! T25s have the engine at the correct end, it's front engined vehicles that have the engine at the wrong end.

not when you're getting a manual choke conversion designed for a car it isn't.
