I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Been there, done the journey on the back of the flatbed as the result of a failed clutch.

As you have said the revs sound right for any given road speed, so if it feels 'Held back' and not 'all revs and no go' that would point to insufficient fuel under load or perhaps retarded timing, although retarded timing would make it harder for the engine to rev in the lower gears. I'm not clued up on DJ injection but have you checked all the vacuum pipes are still connected, I'm sure it's not getting the correct fuel mixture under load.

Just curious. If it's something like the injection system, could it have been brought on by the van stalling? Isn't that the kind of thing that you would expect to develop gradually as hoses deteriorated or settings shifted?
Just trying to understand as we've got a diesel.

ELVIS, that's VERY kind of you!! Still not entirely confident I can troubleshoot the AFM following those earlier instructions. I will however properly get in there this weekend and have a look.
Tempted to do the Vanagon Syndrome resistor mod just in case (although equally don't want that to cover something else).

Right, finally had a chance to take her out again this afternoon.
I'm now erring towards the clutch being the reason again now it think.
I would say the engine is running fine. No scratchiness or erratic idle. Generally sounds good and as normal.
When say exiting a roundabout through first and second there's a definite noticeable sometimes with her not pulling as expected and the revs momentarily going up. This I guessing is the clutch not biting properly and on its way out. What say you?

Lacking in "urge" in higher gears plus a high bite point on the clutch pedal?
I would say its starting to slip.

Right, everything is solved!!
After having a good look over everything. And my friend Doug getting a shock through the what must have been perished rubber of one of the HT leads, I replaced all 5 ignition leads.
She now runs like a bloody race car :-ok
Thanks for all the help as always.
