Thanks very much, I knew I liked the grey when I first saw it, but it took a lot longer to decide on the white cream!

Hi everyone,

Bit more of an update, so the van was under sealed or sholtzed today. And the wheels have been painted in the same colour as the top half of the van. Also the bumpers have been painted, ready for the final finishing off tomorrow.
Just a few more parts to arrive and then it's off to Gasure.

I will post final photos when I put new hub caps on Saturday...

Looks absolutely mint Vdub89! The grey looks great. Given that my van is in a similar or worse state than yours WAS, I can only begin to imagine how excited you must feel right now. One day I'll save up the cash to do something similar...one day. :D

Hi Roydini,

Thanks very much, you are exactly right I am so excited it is untrue. I am actually really proud, I have turned a £100 shed (it was literally in use as a shed when I bought in 08 and was going to scrap yard following week) into a member of the family I am proud of.

It is crazy how much you can grow attached to an inanimate object, but the van was there on my wedding day, all amazing moments of the last seven years...glad he has got the treatment I longed for him to have! So now he has rebuilt 5 speed box, engine, bodywork and electric hookup...all that is left is to pack the beers when the weather brightens up and head off to camp as much as possible this year.

Should have more photos on Saturday!!! Roll on the weekend

Well everyone...he is home safe and sound and all complete. Made it back from Saltney to Newcastle without missing a beat and a smile never left my face. Really like how it has turned out, also fully set up with electric hook up and new engine mounts from Gasure (now the vw speedshop exhaust purrs with no rattle).

Hope you all like him!

Hey Marcus,
I love new-look Herman and love the colours you have chosen! I can't wait to see him (And you and Jennifer) at the Swanage 80-90 Meet in Easter where you can show him off! He definitely out-shines my Poppy-van now!
Very well done and congrats you deserve it (Him) :D

Hi there,

Well in terms of costs i was quite fussy with exactly what i wanted. Basically all the welding, new panels/ plating (for the little bits), they stripped it down, two tone paint, all doors off/ windows out, door shuts painted and boot floor, five wheels rubbed down and painted cream, van undersealed, bumpers painted...expect to pay between 3-3.5k. Obviously i have renewed a few parts at my expense on top of that.

Obviously had i gone for the original colour and not all the extras it would have been around the 2.5k mark.

As I said, they have done a cracking job...i was originally planning to go white...but then i thought you cant take the cash with you so i spent it on the van which i get so much enjoyment from. Also you don't get the van painted very often so i wanted it right. :ok

Cheers

Marcus
