Have you got a memory like a goldfish? I've recommended him to two people this week and a few before Christmas. Keep up at back :rofl

Thing is VW stopped making T4's in 2003 (I think?), so even the very newest T4 is 12 years old, and the oldest are now 25 years old, and as most T4's will have been well-used commercial vehicles most of their lives you wouldn't necessarily be entering the "maintenance free" world of vehicle ownership!

We got given a car back in October, its been sitting since with a couple of runs. Anyway, we were keeping it as a back up car for if the van broke down, or was off the roads for repairs. Went to retrieve it today; flat battery and 4" of water in the footwell. Went to bump start her... and the bloody exhaust fell off.
Got home and went to have a cuddle with my 7 week old daughter! She was clearly doing a poo, went to change her, she distracted me with a smile and pee'd everywhere. Fortunately my wife came home 5 minutes later and took over everything!

Renault?

I'm unlucky enough to have one, bought for Ncap rating and because Parkers give them a decent review, cost more than my van to repair, google the cost of fitting a new clutch!, The water is an easy fix, take the cowling off under the windscreen and on each side you'll find a bung probably submerged under water and blocked by rotten leaves. Clean it out on both sides of the car and check that the pipe that drains from it is clear at the bottom. You need to do it quickly before the water effs up your electrics and the horrible damp stink starts.

Yea, a '99 clio.

I think the electrics are already "feck" up. haha. The sunroof wouldnt open and there was a clicking noise... those were there before it was mine.

I'll try those bungs. I've donated the car to a my Brother to sort for when he is back on the roads. Think it needs 6 months with a dehumidifyer running constantly!

Ok ok ok, you hot me there. Before plunging into the depths of 'builders' vans, people need to be made aware of certain things such as the lack of 'waving' that goes with T-25 ownership, and can one live without it? What's your retort to that I wonder? Come on, give it your best shot Mr. d of S! :rofl

Got under the van this morning and had a good look!

It looks like one bolt from the driveshaft has come undone and the others have sheared  I'm surprised that one bolt coming loose is enough to shear the rest, they must be designed close to the limit... that said, they must be under a lot of shear force there, and they are 31 years old!

This is the best picture I could get.

im yet to consult my haynes about how to remove the drive shaft, but do you think the sheared bolts could be removed in situ? and can anyone recommend a tool piece for this?

As always thanks for your help and enthusiasm! :ok

They should turn easily just by poking round with a sharp point - they are no longer under tension and there is usually plenty of grease on the threads. You will need to be able to turn the wheel to get at them all easily so axle stand rather than a ramp is needed (handbrake off, well chocked front wheels) If that doesn't work invest in some left hand drill bits - the bolts will be hard but sometimes the action will just unwind them. Final solution is full strip down and withdraw from hub and get at them on the bench.

Okay that sounds good. I'll get under there and give them a twist!

A very large pot of patience will be required, hopefully it's on the shelf next to your hand tools :ok

Nope. I haven't got any patience... searched the garage. I did have some a few years back before I got married, but I think I've used it up. I might see if the wife has got any stashed somewhere? If she has been hiding it very well!

Got all the little snapped off "feck" but one! One stubborn little "pooh" that despite bashing and twisting will not budge. If anything I may have made things worse!
THe good news is most of them came out with a nudge of a screwdriver followed by being unwound with a magnet :)

Off to search the web for a really long stud extractor. Any other suggestions? I cant seem to know it around with a punch and hammer. Its work hardened too high heaven now so normal drill bits aren't going into it!

Mentioned before about sometimes having to knock whole stub assembly through (and its usually just for the one). Never tried a tack weld on one though. Might work. Try all the usual stuff though - ie like chasing it round with a sharp punch.
