Ah... Hall sender dizzy... I've not played with one of those for a while, let alone had the need to take one to bits

After you take off the circlip. There is a pin locking the rotor in place. It fits downwards along the line of the shaft. This is where a small pick is handy to get it out. Maybe this'll make it clearer.

Hello,
gave it a week of trying to oil the distributor in case it was seized but no joy so decided to strip it down today.
It wasn't seized but there something wrong with one of the springs, for some strange reason it's all in one piece but obviously broken, it has 8 coils the other 10, I found one of them stuck to the magnet, see pics.
It doesn't look like the springs are replaceable but I might be wrong.

The springs do come off, you just have to be careful that you don't break the plastic lugs that the springs fit over!!

OK, but finding replacement spring is proving to be a mare.
Just had a search and I can't find anything, do you know if the springs out of other distributors are the same? Probably have to source a secondhand unit, unless they are available new.

Have you tried these people they usually have what I need.

Thanks again bigherb.
Could you have another look at the photo of distributor, the spring at the top has a gap between the lug and the hook on the spring, should both springs be the same? I don't think the piece of metal I found on the magnet is anything to do with the spring, it's to thin. I've also discovered that one of the plastic tabs on the end of one of the weights has broken off, would that cause the timing problem? I don't know what to do for the best, try to source the parts and keep it original or buy the PDD6293.

One spring should be longer than the other as the timing advance curve is not linear. Initially there is a fast advance just using the shorter spring until the second spring contacts then then advance rate slows down.
As far as I can tell from your photo the longer spring does look a bit too long which would give you excessive advance at lower RPM.
This is the advance from a fully functioning dizzy.

What about the plastic bit I mentioned? What are your thoughts on the replacement dizzy?

Cant' really see which one is missing from the picture.
A, works the advance cam if one is missing then you will have delayed advance.
B, limits the maximum advance if it is missing then too much ignition advance at high revs.
The PDD6293 distributor works OK but it is a more generic distributor not tuned exactly for the engine.

It's B that's missing off one of mine as for A I'm sure it's got them, unfortunately I've put it back together and back on the van so unable to check tonight.
Looking at your photo the spring at the bottom seems to be more extended than mine, if A is missing that might explain things.
PS do you have any spares for these dizzy's?
