Well had some time spare so crank off, engine rotates quite freely belt off and belt on. Where to next?

OBG are you saying to ignore the fly wheel marks, a notch with dotted line either side and just line up the v notch on the clutch housing, that is confusing to say the least :? why :?

I recon your engine isn't original or maybe just the flywheel, and OBG,s timing mark picture is the marks I use!

The timing marks are not on the flywheel - it is the notch on the pressure plate only. The plate goes on the flywheel only one way so is in the correct position.

Okay, so back to work then. I will see if i can set up the engine using the fly wheel mark. Life is a b*tch sometimes, just when you think you are getting somewhere the rug is pulled from beneath your feet

Don't use the flywheel mark - it will be about 20 degrees out!
Look for the correct mark on the cover, you will know when you are getting close to it when you see the first lug/tab that sticks up.

ObG what a man, spot on, put it all together and after a few turns fired up nicely. Still smoky a bit but will take a look at the pump timing next and that darn fuel screw i played with before.

Thanks to every and their very valued input, much appreciated folks, :ok :ok :ok :ok :ok :ok :ok :ok :ok :ok :ok :ok :ok :ok :ok :ok :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
