Funny re that link to Putney and the dangerous wild boars, I got my cut & pastes mixed up whilst answering another thread about camping in the Forest of Dean

Re the heat-sink not making good flat contact with the body. I don't think it gets hot enough for that to be an issue. I an guessing it will be fine, the standard alloy heat-sink being sufficient on it's own. Maybe run the van for 30 minutes and feel how warm it is. Any hotter than a drinkable cup of tea is too hot.

rivnuts don't sit flush and heatsinking does not work through air gaps.

I'd have thought a coat of paint on the outside of your van would be more important, just don't paint the windows

Maybe ok dunno, all you will do is trap a thin layer of dirt salt and water between two disimmilar metals.
If you don't like self tappers why not just put stainless screws with stainless nyloc nuts on the back?

I'm going to mill the back of the plate (just where the fixings go through the holes), just deep enough to allow it to sit flush with the body - that should cover all the bases.
