well, it was nice and sunny yesterday so thought I would have a poke around on the van, Still raw from my terrible repair work by old skool vw Northampton I thought I would have a dig round some of their work. They patched a few holes on the rear valance, I thought they were gonna chop out the rust and butt weld in repair section! I was wrong so have a look at this for a laugh! black silicone over tack welds and then painted!

I guess I need a complete rear valance as its pretty bent in the middle as well as the rust.

So after all that cheered myself up by stickering the back window!

That welding a patch over a hole is just terrible, good job of naming and shaming bad work
somebody did that to my van once, and because the old rusty hole is sill there and the new metal unpainted it just rusts inside out

Surely something can be done about that? Legally? Trading Standards? That is absolutely dreadful!!!

Thanks for your kind words guys and girls, but this is the best bit! of the work they did, I tried to sort it out with them but they obviously saw me coming! I looked into taking them to court but he advise I was given was that it wasn't worth it! :( u can read the whole story here if you like !!

https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... d+skool+vw

Jesus Paul, I take my hat off to you for being able to put it behind you mate & wish you all the best in getting your van to how you want it. If your not going down the suing route, I'd be inclined to name and shame them on as many forums as poss. They simply do not deserve to be trading.

Really inspired by this. I thought you were going to put the speedo, rev counter etc into those holes and do away with the ugly plastic console.

I wonder if anyone has gone for that clean retro look, I'm thinking that could look nice.

yeah, poor people with their expensive buses getting covered in filler!!

Hey Bishop! I did think about doing what you said, but you would have to relocate the servo as to get the reservoir under the line of the dash! The smooth shiny look would be great.

Then fit a remote servo

yeah that's what I looked at, a lot of hassle for me to work out.

I have the bmw brake servo ready to go in so don't really wanna get too complicated, plus I do like the little pod thing on top of the dash, especially when u fit the new vw gauges into it!
