Perhaps make some improvements in the deal too?

- Provision for bigger wheel/tyre combinations
- Hi lift mounts
- Jerry can mount
- Bike mount
- Locking (as in padlock) mechanism

Just some suggestions. I love the Ortecs. They do the job well and can take the weight of a wheel and an 18st man on them. They just need refining.
Jerry can mount I made up a simple ray which could be refined, verical bike mounts would be easy, Locking Mechanism I'm looking at various options, High lift I tried a few ideas before with them but none really worked but may be able to do something, could even go for a stretched single one?

For those who are looking for an alternative wheel carrier there are always some guys we know of. Feel free to contact them by all means via the website about group buy etc but please dont rip their Idea off by adding a water bottle or spraying them pink or what ever seems acceptable about doing a man out of his living etc... They have been tested and not just driven to the shops but I really dont know personally about how they perform.

Seen those and they look a good version of an older type carrier. I like some of the details like the handle on the locker and the pop-pin for the stay.

My only criticism is price. These sell for nearly a grand with postage. I'm not poor but that's a lot of money to hold a wheel up.

And make it removable behind the disk. Then you can mount other things to the frame.

If the frame had a lower, hinged dropdown section like a Paulchen you could extend it, fasten the wheel mount and wheel on, then a Jerry Can/Water Canister/Toolbox/Bag etc behind it.

Ok just to clarify a few points firstly as far as I am aware Ortec do not make spare wheel carriers anymore in fact I seem to recall their twin sets are NLA so how would this be doing them out of a living? and how do the synronutz wheel carriers stand in your opinion Jed? Secondly maybe its just me but looking at the various wheel carriers that are out there they all seem to share various design similarities to each other and the ortec system ? Maybe its just great minds thinking alike in some form of spare wheel carrier design collective consciousness that spans the world from switzerland to canada to belgium, the states and germany? The same could be said of front and rear shock extenders, ball joint spacers etc
I suppose to sum up I am not trying to do anyone out of a living I was just seeing if some fellow syncronauts in the club wanted to get a once of run of some wheel carriers at a reasonable price, it personally doesn't bother me if I get them made up or not I have a set :D Personally I would prefer to go to Mauritius than buy something to hold a wheel for over a grand plus shipping but maybe thats just me. Sorry it offended you Jed, but people who in live glass houses shouldn't throw roof rack mouts or any of the above items :wink:

It doesn't offend me I just asked not to rip off the the ones I posted up off because most people on here dont know of them, do what you like with the others your copying I dont care I have a Syncro engineering one :mrgreen:

I did ask if there would be any copyright issues though and thats all, so dont understand why your getting your knickers in a twist.

I suppose it must be remembered that when it comes to spare wheel carriers for the VW T3, ALL are rip offs of the original VW one. So who is ripping off who's idea?

Remember the Syncro VW exhibited at Syncro25 which had a ladder, a fuel can carrier on one side and a wheel carrier on the other? That was the Syncro that VW used as a factory demo so anything that came after that is a 'rip off' !! I also suppose that VW one was copied from something else.

I appreciate there are Ortec copies on the market and other types like the Syncronutz etc.

I was going to fork out for two from Jager but he is only supplying the RHS and I would have to modify them to make them work how I want anyway.

If you can make a pair, with some improvements (strengthening? other mount ideas? wheel options? single/combi lock etc) I really don't see an issue.

The materials shouldn't break the bank - it's the bending, rose ends and clamp that bump the price up. If you can buy in bulk these wouldn't be so bad.

If you can do them at a sensible price - you'll be onto a winner. :ok

Do something like the original above and offer a ladder too and I will join others in the need to hump your leg vigourously while waving money at you. For me that is a very tidy setup.

I haven't seen that as a copy anywhere, have you? I dont see the relevance. I haven't seen those air scoops that dont work either acorrding to the chap who was in charge of keeping an eye on it.

No Jed. If I had there would be one on my van now.

There were a few details on that van that had me drooling.

* I have a decent (scruffy) ladder here if you need measurements.

My knickers are not in a twist in fact I thought if anyones yours were Jed about copyright infringements etc which I find ironic but enough of that. Some other wheel carriers here
http://www.ig-syncro16.de/wiki/Kategori ... r%C3%A4ger" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
for my money the most original being the 270 degrees one which I had the pleasure of seeing in the flesh at Syncro 25 http://www.ig-syncro16.de/wiki/Datei:Relleum270_18.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Jed

If you dont see the relevance then you should have gone to Specsavers ......

The relevance is Jed, that VW first made a spare wheel carrier for a T3. Anyone who makes a spare wheel carrier for a T3 is copying VW's idea. Most copies hinge off the C post like the original thereby 'ripping off' VW, most copies are made of tubular steel ... as was the original ... do I need to explain further?

You pointed out carriers made by Nordwest Equipment which look very like Ortecs ... you know, hinged off the C post, made of tubular steel ... not very original!

I like the idea of the 270 ones - they copy the original SA carriers but in newer materials (personally I would prefer good old steel!).

No-one makes the SA carrier now which is a shame as it uses existing mountings (bumper level).
