Just interested in what type of tyres people are using when putting a set of alloys on their bus? Big thing made of only using "van type" or "reinforced sidewall" type tyres on the yank sites, is this a must do? If so, what make of tyres do people use with the 15" set-up?

Still trying to get the wheels to fit - not thought about tyres yet!!

The Westy currently runs commercial tyres as recommended by our colonial cousins for safety, the westy is a heavy beast when loaded with gear and family so I don't want to take any chances.

If you want to retain the rolling diameter then somewhere on this thread there is a link to a tyre selector. I shall be seeking commercials if possible.

Did a bit of a search and came back with Hankook RA14 tyres, classed as light van tyres with the proper load rating, only £58 each, not sure what they look like though, don`t want to get a supa set of alloys then make `em look like the back end of a pig by putting crappy looking treads on em

Anyone recommend a tyre that "looks right", a lot of tyres look like the actual tread part is narrower than the beads, I want something that looks the same width from bead to tread (square if you know what I mean)

Thinking of going with 16" rims anyway, found 205/65 R 16 tyres rated correctly, may be to "van tyre" though.

bit the bullet, ordered the 16" rims so just gotta get a set of tyres sorted. Going to see my mate at his garage tomorrow. see if he can get me a mega deal on 4 of the RA14`s if not, I can get `em for £58 each from Camskill Performance, including the post if you buy a set.

That sounds like a good deal - that's tyres sorted then. Just gotta get Mr Baxter to respond and sell me a few bits for me wheels.

I also have a set of minted scorpios. I have viwed your pics of the cap problems with a dropped jaw. I got caps resprayed with the ford logos filled and now it appears they are useless. What did you do in the end about fitting the caps to the alloys. Cheers.Allan

Hi Alan,
not sorted yet. Have made a circular hole with a disc cutter to allow the nut and cap to pass through.
This, however then prevents the retaining lugs from locking in place because the hole is full of said nut/cap.
Am looking at a work around for the retention.
Have been looking at using araldite to fasten a cut down platic centre cap from a golf onto the centre disc and painting it black to contrast - but this is currently a prototype.

Use longer bolts/studs (for safety) and a wheel spacer (10mm?) to a)improve the offset as Simon said and b)allow the caps to fit

recently fitted the same wheels on my van, I used vw to ford ghia conversion nuts from a guy called craig370a on ebay http://stores.ebay.co.uk/performance-car-shop believe he has also posted on here as he's t25 owner too. email him and ask for the nuts he has the front stud conversion, 40mm will be long enough. due to the nature of the nuts the standard rear studs should be long enough, as the nuts nearly go all the way thru the wheel holes hence the large diameter and hold the wheel on by a taper seat collar

Hi Poshbuggers/Anybody else

Tried my scorpio alloys against the van. The good news is that they fitted over the dust caps. The bad news is the caps wouldnt go on even with a 10 mm spacer but they would on the back. The clearance on the front for the caps looks like a minimum of 15mm so was thinking of getting 20mm spacers, but do you know how this would affect the vans road handling.etc. Ie would it be safe.

Also should I have 20mm spacers all round even though the rear set would only need a 10mm spacer.

They have wheel caps and fastener covers that might work with your scorpios.

I might give up and start again with an expensive purchase of 4 alloys that will fit.
