That's the way to do it but only use the metal ones, don't buy the plastic ones they have a tendency to break.

you are quite right, it is an 8mm inlet.an unforgivable error on my part.
thanks a million for the link, I spent an age looking for one of these today.
there will be one winging its way to me tomorrow.

available from Baxters emporium I believe
the pump that has just failed has 6mm pipes on both inlet and outlet.
no longer available, so I`m told.
