I've got a panel van too, but I have a Westie pop-top so hopefully 2.5l will suffice! Going to attempt Cherry red checker for the roof...

I was hoping to give it a go today, but woke up to Hailstones and too much wind. I took stuff to the skip instead, it was late afternoon when I realised the wind had died down and it was warm and sunny

My one coat is showing signs of needing another ......soon, but I won't have time before Volksfling.....

Took about an hour, for one side and the front.
I had already done most of the hard work. I Dremeled out then painted the seams with Rust Bullet also needed a new wheel arch.
It's not perfect but I managed to get most of the runs out. I now have the feel for it and hope to get another coat in before Volksfling.

Hi all.. great thread! I have looked through this thread before and for the life of me cannot remember if someone said they got this paint in Stoke?? I have just looked through again and cant find it.... (did I make it up?)

I have a brand new 2.5ltr Tin of White 9010 up for sale (cheap!), see the 'for sale' forum if interested. I have replaced it with 9001 cream.

which rustolium is closest to vw pastel white?

Mine is Pastel White, I just recieved 9001 (Cream) which is warmer than the standard 9010 White and seems a closer match to the original but not exact. I had several cans of Acrylic made up last year by my local Paint shop (in VW Pastel White) and as soon as the weather improves I wll test the 9001 against the Acrylic and let you know how it matches. No point in testing it against the van as the original paint will have faded to a lighter shade after 20 years.

had a look in various pound stores this week and alas no foam brushs..... are they on to us? will they appear in the £2 stores? or have b&q put an end to the cheap paint scheme?
you can tell its bank holiday and have naff all to do because of the weather!

I got a close Pastel White match by mixing RAL 9010 & RAL 1018. I have loads of RAL 1018 (yelow) left I can send you some if you want to have a try at mixing yourself.

Hi Willoughby, I have some 1018 Yellow left over from the Mini I have just finished. Bugger, just sold the 2.5 ltr tin of the standard white but thanks for the tip and might try it with the 9001 if it needs a touch more warming. Going to try a colour match tomorrow.

Is this the normal? And I still cant find foam brushes!

I couldn't find foam brushes either, you don't need them anyway! I cut down some of the foam rollers to various shapes and sizes. I also got soft tipped brushes from B&Q (their brand) and are very good. The Mini had many areas that were difficult. I don't throw the small cut down rollers away, once I had finished with them I dropped them back into a can that just had enough paint to cover them but not obscure them. If you do cut the rollers down then make sure that you remove all traces of the black plastic insert otherwise you will have black streakks suddenly appearing. You can also get all the colours of Combi-colour in a Spray can (as an alternative) and spray the tricky sections. I get mine from www.combicolour.co.uk, tel No 0161 763 7007.
