Admittedly, I did not consider the possibility of a 'greyhound syndrome' being a factor here as I interpreted this as being a few dog owners having a day out and a laugh - which now seems to be exactly the case.
I think it was just that and nothing more.
I am on my 2nd rescue Greyhound - its her birthday today in fact; I have all her official doc's, and they make terrific pets. But,she has hard a hard life and there is no doubt that they do not always get a good life; they are money making machines to those of that fraternity, and thats it
Dont know about whippets, so I cant say. But,if you do feel the need to give a dog a home, do consider a Greyhound, I dont think you will regret it.

Seems like this thread should really come to an end now so I'll end were we started and that's with the guy's and gals at Shirebrook and to sing up their praises...very deservedly and to point out yet again what a fantastic venue this is and continues to be.
To put this into context let me tell you what they did for us this weekend...it sounds to good to be true but in this instance everything I'm telling you happened.
The staff supplied the wood and built a massive bonfire pile for our party to enjoy...knowone else.
They turned up with a massive box of fireworks which they handed over to James saying it's your party...you set the fireworks off when you want, they didn't even crash the doo, just left us to our own devices.
They opened up the cafe for food on the Saturday, the toilets for our use and the club for our drinking although that would have been open anyway.
On the Sunday morning Ross turned up in his own car and took breakfast orders and because his own cafe wasn't opening he then proceeded to drive 4 miles to the next village cafe, 40 minutes later he returned with the completed breakfast order.
Last camp Ross did a fish n chip run and even flagged down an icecream van which he convoyed back to the site!
There does seem a certain reluctance generally to use this excellent site when it truely is a great venue.

The same to all of you - I've never had such a warm, cordial welcome such as all of you have shown. for sure we'll be seeing you in the forthcoming year, weather it be from a group gathering or on an individual basis - all of you have given us such a warm welcome, gone out of your way to accommodate us how could we not return? So much fun, no aggravation....just pure pleasure
