Well, if its that urgent allow 7 days. Its not ideal but should be hardy enough to handle fitting glass as long as you're careful. What you want is a couple of hot days to really bake the paint.

Fortunately, I've bought another van to tide me over whilst the paint cures. Problem is, 'er indoors has cottoned on and given me an ultimatimum ; once the van is painted, the second one has to be sold!! I've been rumbled.

Decided to go for it!!! Video watched 20 times (the music gets no better), paint ordered and on the third day of prep!

Just remember, don't let the excitement of wanting to put paint on limit the effort you put in on prep. Get the prep right and you'll be glad you took your time.

Yer mate, I raided Poundland for all my prep gear as per the video, paint should be here Wednesday so weather depending I'm hoping to get painting in a couple of weeks. The problem is there was a wide vinyl on my van and its been resprayed around it, so it's proving really hard to get level and get the shine off.

just been doing research and I see people have sprayed rustoleum I have a medium compressor would it be better to get a gravity feed gun and spray?

Nope, if you roller right you can match spraying it, plus you won't lose half your paint to the air. Lots of folk look at mine close up and don't believe its not sprayed. Just don't do what so many newbies do, and try and lay it on like thick toffee, it doesn't work.

I did try spraying it once. It wasn't as good in my view and certainly no better. Practice on some scrap and you'll see what I mean.

Ok so getting ready now to apply paint but quick question

I'm doing two tone so going to start on the roof and work down

Roof and around windows is the same colour so that ok

But the bottom half and full front is different

How long does the van need to dry before I can apply masking tape to the new paint or is there any tricks to use

I'm putting decals between the join original devon so that will hide a lot

Great technique. One coat down two to go, here are the results.

Used mixed with white spirit on the front, mixed with thinners left overnight on the rest.

Ha - love it! You have no idea how much I grin to see another one done.

Hi, covkid and thanks. I followed the DVD I got from you a while back. I found that using acetone thinners left overnight went on slightly better. I painted at 8am due to my van looking like a giant leaf for the afternoon bugs to sit on. Up close it's not perfect as I needed to roll over black fertan spots and orange factory prime. Well pleased with the first coat. I pre mixed and left over night. Will leave to harden
for a couple of weeks.

Rollering is the way to go

Did lots of prep and repair 18 months ago. Put my first coat on then had season camping. Put my second coat on last weekend. As I only had one coat, on some rust was beginning to creep back on the gutters, but nothing significant. So if you are lazy like me there is no need to rush

If you are using white I would advise using a white undercoat on any bare metal or repaired area.

May actually finish the paint job in the next ten years
