All those videos you've even watching of syncros in action, without diff locks, 60% of it would be impossible. Your van will have four wheel drive (if the vc works and it has a prop fitted) if you lift a rear wheel you will only have drive at the front, if then a front wheel lifts you don't get drive to any of the wheels. Diff locks mean it locks the axles, so as long as wheel is touching the ground, you will get drive. You need to find out much as you can about these vans before you buy one, otherwise (especially in your price range) you will get a very expensive suprise.

I will get drive if the cupling disengages.

Surly if the front wheel lifts of ill still have rear wheel drive.

Don't quite get what you mean by getting drive if the coupling disengages?
As for getting drive at the rear if the front lifts off, only if both rear wheels have grip. When I get home, ill post 2 videos, one of tom going up a hill with no lockers I think? Maybe just rear? And me going up with front and rear locks both engaged. Give us half hour or so

That first part doesn't make sense & the second part is incorrect.
You need to now go off & read all about syncros & off-roading. You had loads of good advice from this thread but you haven't understood the basics & you need to go read about them. There is no point talking about doing LHD/RHD conversions if you don't know what a diff-lock does.

:ok

What i mean is if the vw is (4X4/syncro) i will have drive on all four wheels. Even if i dont have a diff.

I know what a diff lock does. I was confused and wasnt helped by my brother in law.(was round with the kids/manic)

Forget lhd/rhd conversions.

So if there isnt a diff the its basically 2wd?

me with front and rear diff locks click on pics to play video

and tom without, or maybe just rear, can't remember now

a diff LOCK locks either the front wheels or the rear wheels together.
You have a front diff in a syncro attached to the rear diff (gearbox) by the propshaft

Ok so you can drive it without diffs buts its harder.
Coolio.

Why have some people said to me that it doesnt have diffs on it by just looking at the photos?

you asked that question already, and it was answered. your starting to confuse diffs with diff locks

How much are they?
Under the stereo would be a panel with two knobs on, yours doesn't have this. The main cost of retro fitting the is the gearbox has to be taken apart to fit the rear one, and the diff has to come apart to fit the front one. So probably around 2k. You can just fit a rear one, when the gearbox goes for a rebuild

That was with the rear locker in.

I was first up so waffles had to be put in position. I think another run up it would have gone up more easily. Although a front locker would made it less of a drama.

If you are going off road you need a rear locker minimum. I wouldn't be put off buying a Syncro with only a rear locker again. That van is very capable of road. The thing that lets it down most are the tyres.

There is no point buying a Syncro without them and then retro fitting them. Either live without them or don't buy it.
