Somewhere amongst that is your answer (possibly) but I suspect its a mixed colour, and not a standard RAL shade.

Thanks CovKid, have searched and it looks like i'm going to have to get it mixed, would rather pay the extra if they can as would like to keep the colour she is if i can. She's off soon to have her rear arches sorted and then i shall be ready to start the prep. Hoping the DVD arrives tomorrow as day off and home alone so i can sit and watch it through in peace.

I've been reading this thread and the wiki and think I'm gonna give it a go!
Will spend the next few months working on the rust and prep - any tips on rust removal?
I have a sticker brown stripe through the middle i'll need to remove too... hairdryer?

Wanted to read more about flattening, how d'you do that and do you do it after every coat - only after its dried?
very scared and very excited!!

I used 800 grit wet or dry to flat back after each coat, left it to cure for at least 4 weeks.
On another note, I've just had to reprint the side of jambo after my fight with a bollard , used some paint I left In the tin from last year ready mixed and it was fine

The PDF is only general. Get the DVD - its cheap and covers everything.

Ive got the DVD and it mkaes it so much simpler now I understand the things I was making daft and dare I say it 'inexeprienced female' questions like whats flatting back mean.

In all seriousness if you have read the WIKI and have the DVD you wil get the 'light bulb moment'.

Totally inspired by the DVD and we've decide to take the plunge and commit to changing the colour of our van.

Currently the van is brown with the surrounds by the side windows in cream (hamerite...)



We need to do a lot of prep which will happen over the autumn and winter but can't decide on what colour we should change to. The idea is to keep it 80s chic without going mental and like the idea of a white top and keeping the wheels original.

Anyone got any good ideas for colours off the combi range?

Also as we're painting over the brown should we add a layer of white first? Or will cover over multiple layers without detriment to the colour?

I love the look of that van. I think I'd keep the brown and do the top half cream. Having said that I have strange tastes

It is quite unusual...looks alright from 15ft

We painted the bits cream as when we picked it up it looked like this; plus all the around the windows needed repair.



The drivers side is the worst with a fair bit of bodywork to sort out, bottom panel is has been repaired and all uneven, the nose panel isn't good either.



This is the bit that worries me the most...

That part at the front corner can be replaced if necessary, don't think it'd cost too much either. You can get a cut from most of the traders/breakers on here and ask around for a good welder/body repairer.
(My body repairer was brilliant, he's a surgeon at a hospital but that's another story ).

A good friend of mine is a welder so can help, I was wondering if I had to cut it out or replace the side section, missed a panel at Busfest for £60....should have bought it.

Be careful if you're going to paint over hamarite as it reacts with most other paints.
The brown / white strangely looks good. Light blue and white is another common colour scheme

Thanks for the heads up.

Prehaps with a cream roof, bottom section and a touch up on the nose (and other areas) the brown and cream could work?

For rust treatment alot of people (myself Inc) have used "Vactan" and found it very good. It will need painting over but it kills rust, its water based so its doesn't react.
