Got the test lamp to go on/off with the binnacle fog light switch on lamp holder connector socket pin #4 so the wiring is good, but nothing on the fog lamp terminal within the lamp holder itself. Bulb is ok. Can’t think of a work around as it’s a sealed unit. I’ll see if I can borrow a 251-945-258 to double check.

There is a confusing pin out sketch on the web-of-lies which makes no sense to me, as it shows pin #4 as blank?

My Binnacle:

Speedo: needle return spring destroyed (I need a spring!)
Temp. gauge has 3 pins; 12v regulator, 12v sender, earth (should flash for 8 seconds on start up): earth stud is missing (fix-able, maybe)
Clock: broken pcb foil
Lamp: broken pcb foil

(replacement PCB will only fix the clock & lamp)

Forum Member AngeloEvs - I highly recommend for your binnacle issues.

Temperature gauge; you can see that the M3 stud has sheared. My needle works, but the flashing LED doesn’t.

Speedo; pictures of what the spring should look like (between the odometers) and the one removed from my speedo!

Delicate work but quite an interesting insight I thought.

All functions working, gauges within VW Tolerance

Work carried out:-

1. Repair sections added to membrane circuit for Clock and Instrument Lighting.

2. Strip Temperature Gauge and repaired non functioning Coolant Warning LED circuit.

3. Speedo dismantled and cause of non function identified (spring back in there but will replace in future)

4. Main Beam Warning bulb Low output and locked into diffusing cap - bulb removed and replaced with 3mm White LED and resistor replaced.
(any Standard 3mm white LED can be used for future replacement)

5. All Securing Points Tapped (M4) and self Tapping Screws replaced with M4 threaded bolts

6. Repairs to dash casing and Instrumentation -

a) corner section breaking - repair corner section added

b) temperature gauge Securing Panel broken - replaced with a fabricated section and corners peices added where missing/fractured.

Hope a spring can be found, but other than that it all works as it should, the repairs to the membrane circuit seem secure but this is something new regards stitching a new section to replace a faulty section - hopefully it should last with care and attention being exercised if removing it in the future.

Singlecab received a few compliments today. They said it sounds good, asked what engine was in it & liked the white walls as a final touch (proud boy)

My camping days may be over, but this could be a good project for someone with a singlecab - £250 on Facebook

Paint & ting is difficult, this will do (from a distance) ;)

My replacement tailgate was the correct medium blue originally but someone painted over it, dark blue to match their van. Anyway, the inside is perfect match, my attempt on the outside not so much, but it’ll do for now … runs off to paint shop to get some matching paint made.
