Which coil are you using?
Check the coil and leads ohms rating.

Coil is the one from the 1.9 but the ohms are in spec have the coil from the 2.1 as well thats also in spec. But haven't swapped to it, just carrying it as a spare.

Morning! Just got my phone charged.
Had a look yesterday, the vac unit was a little loose on the dizzy so I nipped the two screws up. Didn't make a difference still got a hesitation if I full send the pedal. Odd thing is sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't..
I'll fiddle more stuff home i think and just enjoy the holiday

Well back home.
Journey back the van was still hesitant below 3k.
Went to fit the manifold preheat sender with an adaptor, no problems then saw my coolant was low. Topped it up and I heard running water, looked underneath and a hose had split for the heaters.. typical.
Spent the morning replacing that hose and fighting hose clips. Topped back up all is good.
So timing..
Idle at about 950ish Vac advance hose off, revs go up, plugged it, revs didn't drop as much as i thought as i expected the engine to die. hmm vac leak somewhere perhaps???
Timing checked
Without vac 5 degrees BTDC
Plug the vac hose back onto the unit and it shoots to about 20 degrees.
I did try the gowesty approach to 3krpm 35degrees
But it ran like a*** and when checking timing after that with vac off it was about 5 degrees ATDC.
Worth mentioning that the carb rebuild has a 120 main jet on the primary. The o2 screw was wound out about 5 turns to get it stopping backfiring when the beans were introduced. Ive wound it back in to about 2 turns and ill adjust from there. Yet to drive but will go pick the Mrs up at 4 so I'll report back then.
In the meantime if anyone has ideas what this hesitation could be would be appreciated.

OK so, still hesitant on power below 3k. Going to have to wind the o2 out more as its backfiring if I floor it.
So got all the suspects to check on the carb. All the lines are new, Maybe the vac units are leaking.

Sounds like a possible Hall Sender failing (have a search and see if the symptoms are the same) - do you have a spare dizzy that you could fit?

Welp, think I found the problem. Rechecked the spark leads 3 measure about 6k and one... didn't read anything, gave the cable a wiggle and it then read 6k intermittently.. so duff lead...
King lead read 2k.
New set on order for spares.

Thats they annoying thing, at the time I did check them and they were OK, so all this time from going on holiday I've had a duff lead

live and learn.
Goes like stink now though.. helps to have all the engine working all of the time.

Swap your intermittent 3 cylinder 2.1 for my FULL BLOWN mega running 4 cylinder 1.9?

I don't think I could handle that power

I don't want my gearbox to explode!
