Sorry if this has been asked here a thousand times, I tried searching but cannot seem to find any posts.

I want to Rustoleum my van as close to original pain as possible so I dont have to do engine bay etc.

My colour is 90D Pastel White, does anyone know of a chart or know the RUS2 colour equivalent?

Dunno, but ask Avenue Coatings...they mixed up a VW colour for me and it was bang on.

I got some colour chips from Rawlings in Leeds. Only one white colour!!!! Looked on t'internet and found others incl cream and ivory which look close. Think it needs a trip to suppliers to compare properly. sorry if this isn't much help

I am looking for as close to original as possible but does not have to be perfect as a previous owner has made a half arsed attempt at painting it with a ivory colour

I just think if I get it close to the original it will be easier to blend in with engine bay etc

Has anyone painted a van with same colour code and rustoleum?

I just called at our local Johnstones Paint depot. They are going to stop selling Rustoleum (didn't even know they sold it!!). They say that their own product, under the Johnstones name is superior to Rustoleum (they would, wouldn't they!). It's called "metal defence system". Does anybody know of this paint? They reckon they can tint it for me to get a near enough match
Rustoleum - £18:79 for 0.75l. Johnstones is £15:12 for 0.8l. Didn't get price for 2.5l
Any opinions or knowledge welcomed.
btw, I notice this is a bit expensive but that was not a TRADE price, gives a bit of a comparison though.
Found my paint code is L90D. Is this the only white they did on the 1989ish vans? What is it called? PLEASE?

ALSO: Is there a list of Rustoleum colours that have been found to be "near enough". Could be useful.

Guess they mean that one. I presume its as flexible as Rustoleum. Hard to say unless you want to be the testing ground...

For the sake of a tenner I don't think I'd be the guinea pig. The finish with Rustoleum's great, it's been tried and tested by many on here and if I'm putting the effort in, then I'd hate it to fall flat because of substandard materials. It may not be substandard of course, but sometimes it is a false economy to go for the cheaper option. Just my humble opinion.

Mind you Silky, when you think about it, I was the guinea pig for this whole thread. I well remember the trepidation I felt, poised with a roller full of paint and not sure I was doing the right thing. The theory added up but the practical is a whole different ball game. The first few strokes were nerve-wracking but once I'd got one panel looking right, the rest seemed easy. There are still areas where I feel I got it bang on (particularly the doors) and others where I feel I could have done better but its shrugged off the weather ok. I just need to sort those seams that I didn't grit blast first time around and give it a spring clean.

I recently stood it alongside a crewcab that had been recently sprayed and there was no difference in the finish that I could detect. 2-pack is a harder paint but the Rustoleum seems able to resist damage from small stones due to its flexibility. Not sure on its lifespan. I'd say 10 years max - possibly more but I need to do some touch up work on mine now after 6 years where the edges of doors have been chipped etc.

Silky: The cost doesn't really come into it. It's just that they can mix/tint the colour for me after seeing my van in the flesh. Also the fact that they are going to discontinue Rustoleum (Johnstones that is, it'll still be available elsewhere of course). If I can't get a decent discount then Johnstones will be more expensive.
covkid: Yes, that's the one.Only thing I'm really concerned about here is that it'll harden enough to be able to polish it back. As for being the guinea pig. Well, I have a spare door.
Having done 3 vans now I am more than happy with Rustoleum, my one "gripe" (and only a small one) is the problem with matching colours. Small price to pay though.

Not sure if they can do every single VW colour on the planet, but I asked them for LH5G Medium Blue and it was spot on.

Might give 'em a try. Thanks for that.

I have found a list with a few relevant VW to RAL codes, it is from the Isofan colour map, they have a VW section that has some RAL codes in the second column.
