painting thinned to 15%, seemed better than before when i used 18%. used a measuring jug from pound shop.

make sure you take the time to smooth things out with 600/800 grade. i only did one panel to spruce it up and a bit of dent repair, used p60 to take down the orange peel, then 600, i left a little bit of the panel and the swirls show through the paint, but might level out when flatting down and polishing.

how far do you all flatten back, when flatting back, you see the top of the orange peel go "lighter", do you keep flatting back until you just see the lowest part of the orange peel go "lighter", then polish with cutting paste and random orbit polisher? or do you start polishing before you start to sand the lowest part of the orange peel?

another thing, the 2nd paint tin i have ordered is *slightly* different mid blue LH5G than the previous one, but can hardly see this, or is this just the effects of previous paint in the great big cosmic furnace in the sky, (sun??)

It shouldn't fade but like wallpaper - always paint with same batch.

you're right covkid. btw to the guy a few posts ago, use a decent polymer based masking tape and don't leave it on for ages, take it off after painting and it shouldn't bleed through to the rubber. i learnt that the hard way

Thanks matey, its not too shabby will have a lot of flatting back to do but I am happy. just need to sort the roof out before that gets a coat of black( providing the paint will stick to a devon pop top?)

Yes I did as locks are being replaced and badges will be re painted by hand (air brush) at a later date if I dont change them all together, but I did paint under them and then just put them back on.

Trawled through all this but still not sure. I have a low pressure(hobby) compressor. Simple question. Can I get a good job by spraying rustoleum? I've rollered 3 vans now and been very pleased with the result, just thinking about spraying one now! The compressor is a nu-tool type of thing. Gun is a 50psi one.

I purchased the DVD a month back and determined to have a go as soon as work permits. But boy how handy is it discovering Lawsons are right next to Aldi's car park in Southampton where i live. 2 birds as they say.

Anyone recommend how long to leave the topcoat to dry? Doris is sitting in an unheated lock-up, has been for three weeks now waiting for the her paint to cure. Given that the weather has been c*ap since I finished her...does the panel think that I should leave it longer or...start flatting back this week-end? Advice needed as I don't want to co*k it up. Rob

In poor weather, 4 weeks is a safe bet. Rustoleum say sooner. I say 4 weeks to be safe.
You'll know if its not ready if it feels 'rubbery' when you try to wet sand.

In warm weather, 2 weeks is about right. Its fine to drive ofcourse. That accelerates curing I found.
