Bores checked and all 0.12 to 0.13 clearance. Limit is 0.20mm.

New circlip fitted on crankshaft as the original was a sloppy fit. Wrong one methinks. New one was a bugger to fit though.

Dizzy drive, washers, dizzy, crank and camshaft fitted back in the case.

Your picture prompted a question in my head.

Are you leaving the camshaft rivets in place or replacing them with machine screws ?

Not sure if this was a mod or a reliability change

Aye, I came accross that post myself today, wondered if the camshaft pinion that came loose had been swapped with another and someone made an a*** of the riveting. I don't mean Itchy's pinion. haha.
Mine have been in there long enough that I don't imagine they'll suddenly fall out now.
The one in the post was of unknown history, well.... maybe known to the re-builder.

Hi Bob,

cheers Oliver

I've seen two posts where the rivets on the camshaft gear came loose, both occasions were with rebuild Elite engines, so I think you're right

I was attempting to swap cam gears
at the time you could still buy DG VW cams but all zero size gear so I was looking for solutions to.swap the gear.
I never fittted it because I went DJ route and had a good used cam and crank set.

Now I have another rebuild DJ its got a 3 rivet Aircooled cam with a bolt on vanistan adaper to take the origional gear.

Unles your cam looks non standard rivited then I'd leave it alone.

I have no reason to suspect my cam shaft has been tampered with so will leave well alone.

Can anyone suggest a supplier for Hylomar AF?
I can't seem to find anywhere that has it in stock in the UK.

Re-piston to bore clearance, as Pual says, it's in Haynes etc.
Piston is stamped with 93.98mm diameter.
Clearance limit is 0.2mm
So maximum bore is 94.18mm
mine all measured at 94.10-94.11
Hope that helps. :-)
