Just been doing some googling on ZDDP and there are alot of conflicting posts on forums about it but I'm going with Marco Mansi who builds top quality WBX including turbo charged units he reccomends it.

Recommends it on a fresh rebuild, or recommends it for general use after the running in period ?

Also might be worth getting some graphite paste as you can put this on valve stems, pistons etc as it helps with that initial first time start up when there’s no oil in the case. Mate who did my engine rebuilds lorry engines and swears by it.

Thanks 300CE.

I really appreciate it.
Interesting about graphite paste, I'll look into it.

Do you need to prime the oil pump too before first start? or does the very act of filling with oil prime it for you?

Fill the filter with oil crank until light goes out with ignition disabled.

2 bottles to a fresh race rebuild was the answer, this man knows his onions.

OK, interesting, my onion seller has a different view, he's seen rings that have not bedded in properly, c'est la vie
It's up BBB now to decide what he wants to do with his motor, I think he's about to start the fun stuff

Paul. From your wbxlog thread.....
"Once I was happy all con rods were on the right way up I moved the crank to the vice, 30Nm on the stretch bolts then 1/2 a turn, hard to do on the bench."
Is 30NM+1/2 the same for non stretch bolts?
"crank back in and now I want to fit the distributor gear, less risk of loosing a washer to do it now.
You can't put the washers on the shaft once the case is closed because they won't go past the gear so you would have to put them in first and that's risky.
While the case is split I can just lift the crank a bit and they slide in."
What are these washers of which you speak?
cheers.
BBB.

I think I managed to understand that
No non stretch bolts have a different torque, the mention of tightening a bolt with 1/2 a turn indicates its stretch all non stretch just go to a set torque, in haynes 45Nm
there are two thrust washers under the dizzy drive gear otherwise the aluminium case would wear away.

Ah yes, those washers, I get what you mean now about them not passing the pinion.
Good point about fitting them before closing the case, I'm glad I read that.
45 Nm feels better, 30 seemed like not much when I did it.
Yes, the fun is starting Carrera, piston rings fitted tonight and torque wrench borrowed.
Just a thought, should this re-build have it's own thread or is it fine here? Admin- feel free to move the relevent bits if you like.

Ooh ooh ooh.... look what just landed on my desk. I've got a semi. Hahaha.
Anyone got a 750mm bore they need to measure?

750mm, didn't know you were doing a big bore rebuild

did you double check con rods were the right way up?
What always confuses me is the order or conrods on crank is not as you would expect, I always have to think hard about it.
3,1,4,2 from flywheel, if you get that wrong they are then the wrong way up. when put in case.
also when fitting pistons to barrels I lay them out as they fit otherwise its easy to get confused which way up they are and where to put ring gaps.

Yes, I noted which way up they were when they came out, put them back like that then noticed that according
to Bentley they were upside down so I pulled them and put them back the right way up.
Someone must have been in this case before.
Cast lumps on the con-rods upwards is right by Bentley.
Thanks for the link Carrera, yes, I had seen it before but it's always good to spread the link for others.

The bore gauge kit is definitely overkill but it's a beautiful set. I only need one part out of it.
I've set it up for 94mm=0 using a micrometer, and can work from there to check my bores.
