Yes, well spotted. I had a bit of unused space in the smallest tray, so I did the logo as an exercise. The ring on the top came out just a bit too small to be used on a normal keyring unfortunately - schoolboy error.

With a bit of luck the next tray size up, which is the same length and width but twice as tall, will fill much more efficiently with two layers of choke parts and three layers of throttle parts.

Hello all

The attached picture shows the choke part that I need - please could anybody supply one? Our van's stuck in the local garage until I can get hold of the part. If it makes things quicker, you can call me on 01403 798078 (work), or 07790 350974. Thanks a lot!!

That's the part I've had made. PM me your address - I'll stick one in the post. That'll be from the first batch, in which the holes are a fraction loose, but the piece should do the job, and it'll be free. In about a week's time I should have some that are a slightly better fit - they'll be £1 each, plus £1 1st class postage for any number.

This is the kind of stuff that makes interesting reading.
That and a few pics of restorations..!!

I notice your below comment CJH:

When you get the final batch, I will have one.
Actually make it 3 - it will make it more worth your while to do things like this if you recoup your costs quicker.

I will send a fiver your way for buying 3 of them with postage, if you put one of those fancy key rings in too..!!

The website should have some 80-90 ones made up and sell them at a small profit - that would replenish the account to keep the site going too..!!

You never know, you may be sat in McDonalds 1yr from now, and see another member feeding his pie hole with a bunch of keys attached to one of your keyrings..!!

Haha - I think I must be doing this wrong. Selling more will indeed recoup my costs more quickly, but it also brings forward the day when I'll need to order more.

As for the keyring, I heard that VW were cracking down on unauthorised use of their logo. When I bought some hubcaps a while ago I managed to catch the very moment when stocks were running low because, so I'm told, the manufacturer had been told to stop using the logo without permission. Anyway, this process is quite a costly way to mass produce plastic tat, so the keyrings are definitely a limited edition!

Ok, I will take just one of the new batch then, when they arrive...
I will need to address my choke issue soon, and even if I end up sourcing a spares carb, this would be a nice spare to have for the `future.`

Also, if I told you I wouldn't tell anyone where I got the keyring, would that ease your concern?
Hey, I could say Itchyfeet sold sold me the keyring..!! :idea :rofl :rofl :rofl

Hello CJH

Thanks for all your help; I've just texted you my address. I'll take one of the current batch, please, as I don't want to abuse my garage's free storage for too long! Once the next batch is ready, I'll order one of those, too, so I've got it ready to be fitted when the van's off the road next winter. Cheers!

Ian

I've been struggling to mount the prototype throttle parts to the bracket via the spacer and rivet arrangement and still leave the part loose enough for the spring to operate it freely. I think the spacer is crushing slightly under the compression of the rivet, and then it grips the plastic throttle part.

The trouble is the internal diameter of the Harwin aluminium spacer is about 3.0mm, rather than the specified 3.2mm, so the 3.2mm rivet won't fit. I'm having to run a 3.2mm drill down it. But that's not easy - I have to grip it quite tightly, and being so soft it tends to squash slightly and end up out of round. Even after drilling it through the rivet still won't fit. I'm having to go to 3.5mm, so the walls end up a bit thin, which I think allows the spacer crush with the rivet.

I've tried various spacers from Farnell now, and I think I've settled on a brass spacer from Ettinger that has a 6mm OD. It's also quoted as 3.2mm ID but again is a bit smaller (not as small as the Harwin part mind), so still needs drilling through, but being a stiffer material and having thicker walls it's a lot easier to drill.

Image

I was reluctant to go to a 6mm OD, but I'm happy that there;s still plenty of meat on the spindle part of the piece, so I think this is the best option. I'm planning to increase the hole diameter in the CAD model and then place an order.

The 110mm x 90mm x 50mm container will hold 56 choke parts and 42 throttle parts. Bit of a squeeze, so no room for any cheesy keyrings! This file is ready to upload to Digits2Widgets, so the order should be processed Monday with a bit of luck.
