With this new engine i thought it would be nice to have a working oil pressure system. Existing set up has no oil sender on back of head, or W connection on alternator. Wires are just cut off in the black box in engine bay. First step is to solder a wire onto one of the alternator phases, as a tdi alt doesn't have the W connection..
So, cover removed to reveal the 3 phases

The wire for the W signal needs to attach to one of these, i chose the middle one. soldered one a wire and gave it a bit of added protection with some heatshrink

Drilled a hole in the plastic cover for the wire to pass through

From underneath, part of the plastic had to be trimmed back as the phase post is a bit thicker now

and all put back together

This wire should now be able to be connected along with a oil sender for the back of the head. Hopefully this will all then work, the other option is fit some really expensive oil pressure gauge with a high/low alarm (spa) Costs £180, so i'd rather this worked! Plus my new motto is 'less stuff the better'
