I've got a VR6 pressure plate coupled with a 2.1WBX friction plate on a 1Z flywheel.

I too cannot say that the clutch feels any different to the JX one that was in there. I certainly wouldn't call it heavy..... :?

Now would be a hybrid setup as the wbx plate is a bit thicker than the VR6 one...it works so that's cool...but I would prefer to use the complete vr6/tdi/g60 clutch pack and add a "tdi" input shaft to the gearbox...I know some folk have had issues with the release bearing sleeve but that appears to apply to aftermarket clutches only..

If i were to spend the money again, i think i would probably opt for the full tdi clutch, tdi input shaft and unmodified flywheel.

However, one thing i do like about my current set up is that the gearbox can be replaced with any other syncro or 2wd gearbox in the event of a failure in a remote location. It would be a bit of a pain to have to swap the input shafts over.

The absolute ideal in my mind would be a complete Tdi clutch and flywheel set up but with splines that match the standard input shaft.

With regards to the modified flywheels...on my 1z I got a bit taken off the flywheel because it was regarded as standard practice...and the gearbox was on the van with the old engine still so I couldn't do a trial run as it were...so about 3 mm was removed and the starter fitted etc...but with my new engine for the van I had all the parts to hand o could do a dry build as it were...and the starter nose only fouls the flywheel by a tiny bit it turns out...I was reluctant to shave the standard starter nose and risk weakening it but now I see how much it needs removing I will just be doing that this time...we are talking half a mm.

Swapping input shafts is a pain I agree..as the diff has to be dropped to get the muff off...maybe a performance clutch company like black diamond or EBC or torque wotsit could produce a clutch with a matching hub for less than a "tdi" input shaft...then again maybe not...seems there is no off the shelf part avaiable to do the job except the watter boxer plate.

Other than the oil filter bracket/flange I think I have a complete engine now.. Ah. No the tensioner for the aux belt I don't have, well the one on the fitted engine is a genuine vw one and has only done about 4,000miles. Not worth getting a new one of those...

Need to decide if I'll buy new timing belt covers, might do just to make it look pretty
