It would need to be "messed with" to do that.

Not modified or played with in any way. Lane 3 M4, slight down hill with the breeze behind it maybe, but 88 showing on the satnav for a good 30 secs before we hit an incline.

You wouldn't want to be doing it too often, or it will become " tired"

My standard "not messed" JX with will do 87 on a flat autobahn.
It would probably do a bit more if the diesel kat was removed.

JX haters....
Trust me, i doubt i'll ever be doing it again. Ever seen someone put a breeze block in a washing machine? It was like that

I did 75 in my jx a couple of times.....then it got a bit scary.
I don't think any engine / conversion is really designed for top speeds.
Hills and inclines let my jx powered van down.....if that's the right expression. As ian says.....sometimes we can be guilty of expecting it to do what its not meant to do....

I almost wet myself watching that! It was very similar to be fair, although i think the washing machine had more panels left than the van

Why is everyone in such a hurry?!
In my humble opinion the optimum speed for a JX (on the flat) is 62.5 MPH (100 KPH). I'm almost convinced the 100kph optimum speed isn't coincidence. It was probably in the mind of the designers at VW. But even 62.5 mph in a T3 isn't exactly hanging about on normal roads nor on motorways - faster than lorries!
Anything above that speed with a JX is just "testing it". The biggest problem I think with the JX engine is it's total lack or any torque and they didn't seemed to be designed to last very long - maybe because they were high revving. Any slight gradient in the road with a JX and they just give up the fight at first sight.
We've fitted a 1.9TDi into ours and I still find the best speed is way below 62.5mph - a steady 55 mph. It seems to suit it well - on the flat and uphill.
