Actually it wasn't doing this half as bad till i did the oil change (to 15-50W) from whatever was in before. When you say go up a grade what way do you mean?

I think the idle speed is a bit low. As i said it's erratic in that when i pull up it either goes what i would think 'normal' or real slow and often quits.

This engine went in less than 1k ago, was supplied by a place near glasgow and cost £330 so hopefully the engines not about to go. Like i say it feels good and strong. The invoice i got with the van said 'second hand'. Not much use there then... thinmk maybe i'll phone the garage who did it and ask them about it or take it in. Maybe they'll remember something about it. :?

Maybe running a bit lean - hunting? Worn buttefly spindles?

Up as in more viscous... let's hope an Aircooled whizz drops by to help - soon!

Heeelp!

i used 20/50 in mine
you can now buy oil for old engines, i guess it's a little thicker, and it has something in it for keeping rubber seals fresh. i never tried it though

i really do hope it's not on its last legs :D

Realised that last owner or mechanic for them had wired up the thermostat so it couldn't open. Engine was getting hot and burning oil. Fortunately i didn't do any long journeys. Once the cooling was sorted i had the engine tested by specialists and it was fine. Unfortunately my mate who was goingt to do any welding for me can't cope with what's req'd so it's going to spannerack to get fixed or broken. I took a risk on it as a cheapy but won't lose out in the end. I'm going to be more careful next time. (there's a syncro round the corner i'm going to try to persuade to sell!!).

Thanks everyone- i'll be back with another bus soon_Robin
