So in addition to all the PS bits what mods are needed to 16" syncro to enable? What is the steering upright? :oops: :oops:

Steering upright aka "spindle" in Aircooled circles. It forms the front hub bearing carrier, top and bottom balljoints go into it, steering arm is integral.

So you'll need to check where the track rod ends fit to the steering arms. Take a photo looking directly up or down onto the arm and someone will identify. If converting to PAS, you need the ones drilled closer to the hub centre, or you'll end up with scarey light steering and a massive turning circle!

A bit more info to feed back into this investigation:

I've measured the pas rack stroke on the SA and it uses all of the 170mm going lock-to-lock but...I'd say that the last 15-20mm each way is lost in "spring-back" for want of a better term. You do have to haul on the wheel to get that last 1/4 turn*.
I reckon it would hardly make any difference on a 3-point turn if the rack only had 140mm stroke.
However, there might be a slight risk of the rack meeting end of stroke before the steering uprights meet their own stops, which is somewhat undesirable.
I measured from the rack boot/track rod grommet to the radius rod bracket for a datum.
Anyone with a syncro and PAS care to do the same so we can get an idea of what's going on, syncro vs. 2wd?

* 75 bar pump on the SA. German vans with 115 bar may be easier to get to full lock.
