Re: Dropping the gearbox/rear diff

Hi all, thanks for your help so far. I've managed to put the box back in the van, connected all cables and tightened all bolts...switched on the engine and it's all sweet, HOWEVER, the rear diff lock light is on. I've jacked up the left wheel and turned it to check if the diff is locked, but I'm able to turn it independently of the right wheel. I've also reversed the diff lock actuator plug in the hope that would put things right, but to no avail.
Can anyone shed some light on what might be going on? I haven't driven the van as I wouldn't want to drive it if the diff might be locked...
As always any help will be greatly appreciated.

missed out the 2mm washer or tightened it too far or the hole for the switch wasn't alligned so switch is permenantly closed or there's a wiring fault but you've tested the two wheels can rotate in opposite directions so difflock isn't on

Thanks Aidan...is it possible that the cylindrical rod of the diff lock is half way not locking the diff completely, but at the same time not leaving it completely unlocked? I rotated one wheel only while the other one was on the ramp, should I rotate both wheels in opposite direction and at the same time instead? I tried to drive the van yesterday. I took it off the ramps by pulling in first gear; it felt as if the clutch was gone - not much pulling power in 1st. It's the same symptom as when the gearbox was broken (the mechanic said the diff lock was half way through locking position when he dismantled the box). I immediately reversed onto the ramps without the van making any strange movement or the clutch slipping in any way..
I'm confused, I think I'll drop the front of the gearbox, disconnect the diff lock actuator and proceed as if I was trying to unseize it to make sure it's not in the lock position...again, all help greatly appreciated.
Cheers
