hmmmmm....if you have metal grills the van is truly early, and is a good indication it was originally air cooled.

if metal then 100% air cooled originally by the time the diesel engines were offered they'd gone to plastic as they had to modify the air intakes I guess for the diesel or the use of the metal panel was causing distortion to the shell or the pressing of them had too high a remake rate

could be right there Aiden, funny panal to press, anyhaow mine is derv, ok its been converted but youd not tell from the externals nor the engine bay,

change over was late Jan 81 build after that they had the plastic trim the very first diesels ran off the line at the very end of Jan 81 according to the engine dates
