Depending on how much cash / time you have, you may want to setup the van as a non turbo first (slap a 1.9d 1Y engine in).

Ok so suppose I went for a 1.9 diesel 1Y (out of a Seat Ibiza?) would I not need as much bits as with a JX?

This could end up a million and one questions on the 1Y engine now!!

Would first port of call be find a Seat Ibiza with a decent 1Y engine? I saw one on ebay once £250 with MOT and Tax!

Is there a lot I would need still if I found a complete car? Obviously bars/mounts but what about sump/manifolds/filters?

its a very long winded way of doing things , especially when you dont have the bits you need to convert the newer engine to fit a T25

it will end up costing you much more in the long run! and probably a lot more sweat /tears.

simplest way to get your van running is buying the complete set up from a n/a van , most will still prob need the wiring doing tho as they will be late setups.

your probably looking at around £500 to get an engine in and running , if you do alot of the work yourself

if you end up buying all the bits seperatly it will be alot more!

Thanks for the advice there Billy, so is there anyone you can put me in touch with for what I would need? I would gladly pay around £500 to get my van running. I have a few mates who can help me fit it too. I am able to travel for the right stuff. Cheers, Jon.

I have to say im not sure i agree with Julian (BillyNumbers) for a NA setup.

For a start, vans arent that cheap even with a knackered engine. Unless of course Julian can sell you one
However, i'm not stupid enough to ignore something Julian says - he breaks these vans for a living so knows better than most.

I would start with that list and add up all your bits - then start looking at knackered vans (i think you have one already but im hoping the bodywork is good on it!! )

As a side, I have no idea how much engine bars are - or if they are easy to get. These and the rubbers may be your downfall...

I kinda get where you are both coming from and suppose I will see if Billy (Julian) comes back with anything. If he breaks vans surely he could provide the lot

My van is nearly finished body work wise and I have throughly enjoyed doing it. Thing is this engine malarky is proving more complicated than anything else.

I have seen loads of engine bars for sale just biding my time.

does this mean that you dont want to buy the engine then...happy either way..you need to make the right decision...but i need to sell the JX (or maybe sell the separate bits as i said)

jon i have a jx engine in my van that is running although off road mine is an 86 year. If you wanted to come and have a look at the engine bay, im sure we could sort something as im only in sthelens so not too far

i have always sold my complete engine units jx as turnkey with bars , hoses , wiring ect for around £450

the N/A 1.7 setups i usually do with the box for £500

the option is i specifically get a van to break or you find one

i have the set up now in for sale section , but as it states in needs some minor tinkering , but will be good enough to get the van running

my local scrapyard has later car diesel turbo and non turbo engines regularly and are about £150 complete but you do have to remove yourself.

he has all from basic 1.9 n/a to the later flyby wire turbo stuff all the same price

i have a n/a engine poss to split , it has some hoses /engine bars/ early wiring /manifolds /exhaust ect and i only want £100-

some sellers charge £100 for the engine bars , £50 for flywheel , £30 wiring loom , £50 manifolds , £30 bellhousing bolts £400 bare engine , £50 airfilter ect ect and you can see how it adds up seperatly.

if you get a 5 speed gearbox you will need the gear stick androds , add the service items you will want anyway - fuel , air , oil filters plus cambelt kit , possibly clutch and it will add up!

There is 4 T25s in the area that I live in (2) Tin Tops kitted out as day/camper van. (1)A 1984 Devon Sunrise, Pop Top, Side lifting. (1) E.M.C. Hightop with a Leisurdrive Conversion. (2) TinTops + 1 PopTop. (3) In Total Situated in the Dentons Green Area. So I make that Seven of us. You will have to come to one of our Monkey Meets Somtime I will let you know when the next 1 is.
