my van ticks, rumbles, knocks and rattles!!
You should hear mine! The latest solution to the mega-din was pulling my bobble hat over my ears to kurb some of the racket!

You can isolate the origin of the noise to some extent by using a 2ft stick of wood or long screwdriver and pressing the handle against your lughole, touch various parts of the engine to see where it is noisiest. It doesn't always find it spot on but can help you get some idea of where it might be coming from. Check your exhaust isn't blowing where it meets the heads.

Comparing the two vids and with the guv'nor listening in, reckoning is either:
1.Blocked or restricted oilway to one big end (possible)
2.Cracked piston skirt (more likely) closing as it warms up.
At least it's an Aircooled so should be a trauma-free investigation and repair.

aye - it could be a lazy tappet or one that drains it's oil out quickly.
The induction noise is about right on that based on my own experience with webbers and CT engines - my CT always sounded very "sucky" when it ran the webbers...

It will be a process of elimination, or wait for a bang and looked suprised when the AA man says its mullered!
Lots of really good educated theories from you all, thanks, my contribution was to check for biros stuck in the glove box, change the rubber floor mats and hang another air freshner up, none of which worked funily enough!
Thanks all for the help,
