I'm no expert but the 2.1 engine model basics between versions should be similar ie bore and stroke, timing etc , and the type of fuel injection will be similar,so I would imagine that some headwork to possibly raise the comp ratio and a live mapping session, maybe different injectors could up the power a bit, but as I say I'm no expert and I haven't looked into it..

I've looked into it a little and straight away it's a piston change, and then it raises the question of con rod suitability, the injection system is a digifant on yours and digijet on the DJ

Hi
After reading this thread from the start, one question you have to answer yourself is, are you happy with your bus.
I have a 1990 Westfalia Atlantic poptop fitted with an SS 2.1 engine, it runs well and will cruise comfortably at 65 -70 if required.
This year we travelled through Spain and France, covering 2500 mile and returned a 24.6mpg average. Lower compression tends to equal better reliability as less "strain" is put on the engine.

The answer to this is yes I am. I'm not going to modify it, nor am I going to sell it. It's a great bus in very good condition. I've had time to think about it, I'm happy if it's stays reliable, and remains fun to own and drive..
My main gripe was the fact it was sold to me as a 112bhp and as I've since found out that it isn't. Leaves a bitter taste in the mouth especially as it was specifically what I was looking for in a T25 camper..and a dealer should know better, especially one that deals in VW campers of this vintage and earlier.

the ss and mv are nicer motors than the dj imho, far smoother power delivery and a far more advanced fuel injection system.
a dj needs super unleaded to achieve 112 bhp, most uk ones have seen their timing retarded to run on normal unleaded hence not 112 bhp anymore.
i really wouldnt be upset.
just out of intrest did the dealer say it was a 112 bhp model or that it was a 2.1 and you assumed it was 112?

Have you checked the block? maybe it is actually a DJ thats been swapped in and the V5 hasnt been changed as often is the case. No point getting all excited if there isn't an actual existing issue.
If it isnt chase them for the money why dont you-after all it was sold by description, then put it towards an LPG set up, you'll need it

Also mine is a 5 speed model, so I ignorantly thought it would automatically be the high powered 112bhp unit to go with it..
Also it seems that most people that sell these 2.1ltr model automatically assume that it has 112bhp. I dont recall any advertised whilst i was looking stating 2.1 ltr 87 bhp...
Bit miffed now, what to do
The 2ยท1 litre engines, fitted to North American specification, VW Vanagons (i.e. VW Type 25s), were of
MUCH lower compression ratio and stifled by exhaust-gas emissions equipment, like catalytic converters, etc.
Similar considerations, might also apply to other overseas territories.
