just to add that i have checked...

one. nuts are tight behind the binnacle.

two. clean connects between the red yellow wire and temp sensor

three. levels checked mixture etc is fine. no overheating issues.

i think the wiki needs clarifying about module fourty two or forty three on early vans with continental fuse box because there's no such module on these vans, i tried to open a discussion on the wiki but couldn't add it.

ps i also checked the large multi connector on the dash, no joy.

i can't see why this needly would rise to the top when the red yellow wire is not attached to the sensor.

previously it was just languishing at the start of the temp gauge the cold part, before giving up the ghost and swinging into the extreme right and staying there.

please can any advise.

ok I took the yellow red wire off and its still lurching to the top, May be a duff gauge in the dash. can you get replace for just this gauge or do you have to get whole lot. can I test with a smiths mini gauge or can someone tell me a test I can do on the feed.

it was module 43 hidden right up behind the other relays and modules. took it out and needle dropped.

some hunk and green, yellow corrosion on the contacts. tried cleaning up but no joy. where can I get another module 43 today? any tests on components I can do to repair this 43?

Angelo, where are you?!!! ;)

relay out and gauge is working fine. everything seems back to normal. is it safe to roll without module 43 what's it for is it just to boost the connection to the back of the bus or is it for safety in the event of a short and why does the circuit work without it?

ok everyone. 43 is for the coolant level light. will get another one in. leaving it out for now. my 43 was third row back behind continental fuse selection, couple modules, third row back. requires a bit of contortion to get it.

You can get 43 or 42 (same thing) from VW but they are expensive. I see them S/H regularly on ebay going for peanuts.......unfortunately they cannot be repaired as it contains a microchip (unless it's just corrosion on the internals, broken connection ...cut or carefully remove the cover and take a peek.... :D )
