Nice one! Well, I welded the rjes exhaust support bracket to my 2.2 sump in-situ  on the driveway ages back and it's never given any problems...
Of course, now the cases have gone back to the engine shop, but I'll see if there's a dead one knocking about that we can use for playing around

Hokey cokey. I'm sure Stevo could let me have one of his "that didn't quite work out" ex-drag race casings...something that didn't enjoy the 1400 pfederstarke

Sump arrived safely. Plenty to think about there, but first impressions are that cut off at 80mm from the flange would just leave the top baffle in place, which could be useful.

Slightly off topic, but worth mentioning: I thought that I'd have a lok at the oil pressure relief arrangement for the EJ oil pump, as the WBX one comes in for some criticism (being as it blows off back into the pump suction line via a long gallery across the crankcase)

The Subaru oil pump is a trochoidal inner/outer rotor design, with the relief valve built into the body which is also the front cover fr the engine. Where does the excess pressure discharge to? Direct to the suction inlet, about 3" away! Not so different then...

I should also add that the 2.2 SOHC relief valve is set for 70psi (DOHC 85psi) and that the pump is rated 4.2 litres/min @ 14psi, 600rpm; 42 litres/min @ 43 psi, 5000rpm. All at 80 deg.C
DOHC flow rates 4.6 l/min, 47 l/min respectively at the same pressures.
The oil filter internal bypass is specified at 23psi.

How does all this lot compare to the WBX specs? I haven't got Bentley here to check...

never seen flow rate figures for our oil system

I wonder if it was ever published amongst the VW factsheets that Doug unearthed a while back (in my 2.6i ignition thread)

One of the lads from the engine shop called yesterday to pickup the EJ cases. I mentioned this subject to him and speaking as a modified Impreza driver, he says that the standard Subaru windage trays are generally regarded as dustbin filler in tuning circles and the Cosworth "trap-door" type baffle is £200 well spent.

Didn't know that, but had a clack-valve baffle box as top of my list anyway :ok

All worthwhile things been said.

Assuming the sort of oil system I have on my diesel, as Ian says, about 2.5+ litres additional, focuses on the take-off plate. What are everyone's views of the position of the Subaru oil take-off when in the T3. Ditto Filter, remote or otherwise.

Agree that the normal shortening seems to retain the top plate. I think the volume is less than most suppose.

Noticed this in the bits for sale section:

Image

being made up and sold by g8lfer (here on 80/90) for £180
what do you think?

Presently my van is getting complicated bracketry made up to support the RJES exhaust,
which should weld to the sump, but as mine is a smallcar aluminium one it cant be done like that.
Would have been great to have had the steel one sorted, possibly simplifying the job.

Its being done at a reputable garage, been waiting patiently in line,
because they have been flat out with TDi conversions...

which is also why I have been very quiet lately...

I might be wrong, but looking at theat picture, If you're using an RJES exhaut setup, then surely that sump's rear extension wouldn't be compatible, or else it sits under the exhaust?

Your probably right, I wont be using it anyway,
but I will have a Longlife exhaust for sale thats just come off mine,
that would fit with it.

This one looks to be gestating nicely, well into the third trimester

I had a phone enquiry about progress on this particular item, so it's high time it moved up the priority list. Dunno how I'll fit it in but I sincerely hope to have a prototype knocked up in time for Coney Farm.

Yes, I've seen the Burley version and their drain plug position doesn't even get the dregs out, so I won't copy that!

PS Is Rollercoaster still in the game or did he sell up in the end?

Keep me in mind for one Ian...

PS. What's a 'longlife' exhaust? Extra thick metal ?

Maybe it comes in a waxed carton and tastes foul?

Clive, Longlife is a franchise for s/s exhausts. My experience was OK, but it's as good as the fabricator and his mandrel bender...

My intention is to make this compatible with RJES components and suitable for both 2wd and syncro i.e. it will clear the petrol bash bars, once suitably extended. It's the only way to have a "wing" design for sufficient capacity, that I can see. The smallcar engine bracket precludes this feature thanks to it's long side arms, which wrap around the standard sump. It will be necessary, however, to copy the small car use of the VW engine bar to mount the engine protection.

UK designed and made etc etc

Prototype first!
