Quite a trip. What site were you at in Cavallino-Traporti? We had 10 days down there leaving on Sept 1 for €13 a night. The site was nice but we were surrounded by miserable sods

We found it purely by chance. We did find one campsite near venice, NEXT DOOR TO THE AIRPORT!!! and it was horrendous. It was like club 18-30 for a start, was dirty, the showers and toilets were not working working and also the site was not secure, and did I mention the Airport! It was sooo loud! After setting up the Gazebo, we promptly tore it all back down again and left!

We knew nothing about Cavallino-treporti other than it had a motor home park there (before leaving I bought the CamperStop book), so I punched in the co-ordinates to the sat nav and off we went. As soon as we hit cavvalino-treporti we saw how touristy it was (not what we were looking for really) and we even tried a mainstream campsite with all the entertainment and bars etc, but quickly turned around again.

As we had the motorhome park co-ordinates in the sat nav we went there only to find it full but saw the AlBateo site right next door so gave it a try.
It was perfect for us bearing in mind we were honeymooning and relaxing, and consisted of a well cared for strip of green field and trees with a shingle strip up the middle with sites either side with electric hook-up. No blaring lights or loud music, just other like minded campers.
The facilities were great and all decorated in a typically italian rustic feel and were perfectly cared for and clean.

The on-site shop is great and serves all organic type ingredinets and locally made wine. The ferry to Venice is only a 300m walk away and there are three or four restaurants within walking distance.

In all, a perfect site for the location!

I think I've past that one several times. It has a resteraunt more or less next door to it on the main road iirc. I haven't been past it since last year mind, but are they still dredging or doing some major building work on the lagoon front just there?

We stayed at http://www.scarpiland.it" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - We used the ACSI camping card so got the pitch for 13€ a night + 4€ for the little one. It was a lot quieter than most of the major sites along that strip of land but still had something for our son in the evenings. The sites are all very proper and organised so aren't as casual as most VW van owners are.

The ASCI Camping card and book I will buy for next time. I bought the Camperstop book as reccomended on this site, but quickly figured those sites are more for those in Large motor homes with showers and toilets etc. My wife now loves camping in the van, but much prefers a site with even the basic facilities which I can understand so I think I will buy more campsite type books for the future.

Im sure too when we have kids and start taking them camping the other sites will be a must with the pools and entertainment etc but on this trip we kept finding perfect little sites away from the masses which suited us perfectly.

We are already planning going back to italy though!
