I take your point. I've had a look at the Apha Batteries site and found this economical battery.

I'd like to think that it'll do the business for my basic needs. Any comments?

Depends what 'basic needs' amount to.

My basic needs are lights, water pump and the fan for the eberspacher heater (I think that's how it's spelt?), though I haven't had a reason to use the heater to date. Anyway, when I'm hooked up to mains I plan to use a halogen or oil heater.

Oil heaters are my choice
No less than 750 watts if I may say from experience for the spring and Autumn.
In the winter though 1.5 kw is just enough.

I'm attracted to the idea of an oil heater 'cos I think they can be kept on during the day so I can get back to a toasty camper.

my 89 westfalia which as the original electrolux (not a compressor) fridge does (kinda) run off the battery. when the engine's running it will keep the fridge cool (but not cold) even on a hot day. with engine off, it's better than nothing but not what you could call refridgerated.
this is off a standard leisure battery that cost me £50, and doesn't run down even on a day or so with the fridge on.

Using a battery is daft when you have a gas fridge. .
