I have issues with the bed in my Westy and also the front seats, not enough lumbar support in the seats and the bed is far too hard. Its done my back in so much that I'm having physiotherapy!

Owlets.see I was right, it is too bliidy hard and yes I too get backache in the driving seat, your right no lumbar support........

I have rectified the problem, hopefully, with buying a 1inch thick memory foam mattress topper for £55 on fleabay(thats reallyr eally cheap aswell!!!!!!!!)..., it should come sometime this week...

Watch this space for info about whether it makes a difference or not..........at that price it had better do

We use an inflatable mattress sometimes..easy to get them just the right width and 1 min to inflate from lighter...then let it down and roll the whole bed up including duvet and pillows during the day... :D

Hi there,

If you have the money, one of the therm-a-rest's, cheapest you can get. Cos there a bit costly.

See ya,

I know this is a really old thread, but after a week in our new van (Westy) I found the mattress was so bloody uncomfortable, it left me with a really sore back.

Interested to know if the Mattress topper worked?

Or does anyone have any other ideas.

Hey Shaz
It did indeed work, and as I type I'm lying on it !!!

(surrounded by woodchip, not rust)

Not tried a Westy mattress, but all the physiotherapy books etc I have read concur that a harder matress is better for your back than a soft one.

Could some other factor be at work ?
level, width, cold, sitting on the journey etc ? :?

Just get some new foam cut to fit the existing covers, then it`s still a Westy !

Mine is fine by the way :)
