Bit like Sharon said, it,s not the valuation from pictures that counts, its the valuation the assesor puts on at the time of the claim, quite often 80% of initial quote, gone are the days of making money from an insurance claim :)

So an agreed value is not really a guarantee then?

Not looking at makng a profit if the worst did happen. I know how hard these are to find (took ages for this one to come up). I'm sure the current econmic climate affects the prices considerably. I just don't want to be short changed.

How much did you have it insured for Stan and who did you use?

I'm in a dilemma at the moment. My insurers seem over-keen to move on with the claim (van has been gone 2 days) and I fear the pay-out might not reflect the value of the van (parts, rarity etc).

Should I get an independent, retrospective valuation (I have receipts, photos etc) and where from?

Best to collect adverts of similar vans for sale so you can prove worth of it, and what it will cost to repair.
All the changes made, did you notify ins company? Just that it might work out better to not mention some things, incase insurance question it

Even if I tried to find a similar aged, spec'd van now it would cost me way more than I paid I am sure.

Initial purchase price was 2k for an 88, LHD, 2.1WBX powered Kombi with power steering, Opening quarters, dash tidy, Towbar and rear difflock.

Since then its had a full suspension rebuild (bushes, balljoints, washers - everything), HD front springs, Rear spacers, trailing arm mods (maybe best not to declare), 944 driveshafts, Roofrack, ladder, ORTEC spare wheel carrier, CD player, Recaro cab seats and a Westy interior with underslung LPG tank.

Not sure how to play this as many of the mods were nearly finished hence not quite ready to be declared on the insyrance but I do have reciepts and photos of them.

944 joints allow better articulation than stock Syncro joints on extreme lifts. Mine were binding after fitting the lift kit so the 944 stuff helped.

As for the 2k buying price, yes - I got a bargain.

Adrian Flux screwed me over last year by giving me a policy for a modified vehicle that didn't include agreed value. They told me this after the 14 day cool off period then said I could change it at a cost of 25% of the premium value plus admin fee. I told them where they could stick it. If I had had to claim I would have loved for them to find a comparable vehicle. It's the only fully galvanised vr6 powered Syncro I know of.

I was with HIC for many years with my T25 but moved to Glynwoods on a recommendation when I got my syncro!
If you ring 01543 675163 and ask for Paul he knows what we are about and you get a great service :)

Not sure how it works in the UK but over here if you modded your vehicle and didnt tell the insurance company then you would get zilch. I made a DVD with all the money I spent and all the mods I did and presented it to AXA who excepted everything. I have an agreed value but I know Ill never get it if the unmentionable ever happens.

I don't get it. I thought the point was that you get what was agreed?

I hope they accepted everything or you are stuffed in the case of a claim
