The mechanic that looked at it and did all of the test rang him on my behalf and he still said it was a fault with the carbs or timing, he had to hang the phone up on the end because he wouldn't listen to him. I called him back and he had the cheek to say does he know what he is doing and that I need to take it to a vw specialist for them to look at it. Costing me more money and to probably get the same result! :|

My problem never did get sorted and I ended up sourcing and fitting a replacement engine. I would never recommend them, I'm not alone!

What was wrong with your engine then? . I'm getting someone elso to fit the new tappets. I can't be bothered with the hastle of trying to get them to fix it. It might cost me more money but at least I know it's being done correctly. And not using old crappy part just to save a few pounds

Hello,

Hydraulic tappets wearing out.....get real :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Check the CYLINDER HEAD TORQUES.

DO THEM IN THE RIGHT ORDER

SET YOUR TAPPETS AT 1 1/2 TURNS

I'll bet the timing is wrong too, cos 12 o clock is not TDC.

Have the carbs been jetted for a 2 ton van.

Just asking,
