bit of a rear whine from one to two, even with engine off
Whining is internal Gbox wear you mean with clutch pedal pressed surely? if you gearbox whines with the engine off then you have a daily mail reader in there! I dont think thicker viscosity will help, time for a rebuild. But I cant hurt to eek a bit of life out of it by changing the oil for fresh to the recomended spec.

if noise with clutch pedal depressed it's generally the release bearing, if noise with pedal released then generally it's the input side of the gearbox, ie input shaft and mainshaft and parts running on/driven by them, if noise when moving then pinion shaft/crown/differential or parts running on pinion shaft

I noticed a difficulty in shifting after changing from 75-90 to 80-90, had been fine for about four years until I changed to the Fusch type from GSF, as soon as winter arrived the problem started.

Make sure you undo the filler before the drain.

else you may regret the latter before the former!

What he says but given the choice... I would be buying a slightly thinner 75W 90 GL4 for better cold shifting....

Which I believe was the point the first poster was making.

as long as it is GL4 that is fine that 80w/90 is the original weight spec
