Thanks for some great pointers & tips guys, much appreciated & inspired me to go out for another play.

I went back to basics, assuming that not a lot could be wrong as it had passed it's MOT 2 weeks ago & they were bound to have checked the washers worked :) Plus I really didn't fancy a session on my back under the van again!

The guy I got it off had been playing at fitting radios, speakers, etc, so I had a brainwave... fuses! Yes, both the washer motor & the washer switch had blown (along with another 2), so replaced those, switched on & fingers crossed ... nothing :(

Checked fuses again, but both looked OK, so being a suspicious type I swapped another 10A fuse from another fuse slot into the motor slot & it worked! ... well sort of.. a tiny dribble not the Niagra I hoped for. Inspected replacement fuse I pulled & it looked fine, no breaks, etc, but just didn't work.
With a bit of fettling ( a good tip is you can get a "boilie drill" for a quid or two from your local fishing shop which makes the best wiper jet cleaner ever, I always keep one in my spares kit) Typical of my luck I managed to get a really good flow from passenger side, where I don't need it & dribble from the other, so it looks like new jets & a good clean out is in order. The water must have been overflowing rather than leaking I think.

I'm off later to the local Peugeot dealer to get some Pug 607 jets, as I read on here they are a push in replacement for £4 a pair ... unless anyone has any better ideas?

Then all that's left is to work out why the analogue dash clock & ciggy lighter are not working, but the radio is, fit a mains inlet, consumer unit & power points / lights, investigate the slight oil & water drips under the engine, re-trim the interior & refurbish the cupboards, start on the rust..... and maybe if I get a chance even use it as a camper sometime

Thanks for all your help & advice,

Steve

Oldie .... Most I ever clocked on mine was 85 with no verification, but 99% of my rides were local / country lane. I can't imagine what a ton plus would have been like, but great bikes, good times & bringing back lovely memories ... All my mates had Norton Atlas / Commandos & Triumph Bonnies, but definitely preferred mine.

Thanks all for advice -

Ian - By 'loom' do you mean linking connectors with some wire?

Cheers Cyrus - I've got a battery charger, I'll test the pump with it tonight....For replacement j nuts/bolts you could try the usual places (Just Kampers, Brickwerks etc)...I've got most parts from my nearest VW Van Centre (Chain Bar Rd, Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, BD19 3QF, 01274 863777), pretty helpful there... I've found other VW Centres no good for T25 parts.....

Hope this helps a bit.

Please help me before the van gets it!

I tested the washer pump & it works, but no power to the connector. So I removed a couple of earths from the crown, cleaned them and re-attached, tried again & heard the pump working for a few seconds then stop...I've cleaned a few more earth connections (broken on connecter in the process) but can't get the pump to work again....

Any ideas?? Its driving me mad!!

Mine has an earth on the chassis via one of the securing bolts - possibly a refinement by a previous owner to ensure a good earth.

While you are at the earths it would be worthwhile to remove the crown and clean up its contacting surfaces on the body and crown.

Yep - made some progress, but pump still not working...

I couldn't remove earth crown, but I cleaned it up, then refitted the washer tank & pump (not easy getting the little hose back onto the pump!).

My circuit test tonight shows power to the pump connecter and earths seem OK...so a bust pump? - but it worked when tested yesterday & I'm sure I heard the pump working for a few seconds when I re-fitted it!!

Any thoughts?????????????? :?

** Could it be bad connection to the steering column, or would that mean the wipers wouldn't wipe (which they do) ....??

I've renamed this thread, hoping for a miracle!!

Had another go sorting my washer pump tonight....

I tested the pump again (connected direct to battery) and it works!
Then I used circuit tester on the connecter for the pump and I get around 12V (also get above 12V testing van battery)!

BUT when I connect up - NOTHING! How is this possible??
I removed connecters & tried the bare wire, in case if bad contacts - NOTHING!

Please help - I took my anger out on my Mum % feel bad!!!!!!!!

Buy your ol' dear some flowers and say sorry.

It sounds like you have 12v but not enough current to run the washer pump, put a new fuse in (not sure what fuse no) and maybe and temp earth to chassis. Could you check the voltage whilst the pump is running and make sure its not dropping (faulty wiring?)

Many Thanks Cyrus,
Temp Earth to chassis? - How do I do this? Connect to the earth crown from the washer fuse connection?

I got pump running by connecting direct to the van battery - not sure how I'd check voltage while running...I thought if I get 12v at the connector for the pump then the wiring must be OK?

I'll have another go, might have to find a garage on health grounds!!!!

Cleaned and checked the washer switch contacts? - thread recently about this. They could need bending back together.

Cheers Oldiebut!

Are these the contacts on the steering wheel column??

If so, I did remove the steering wheel and have a go...........but this must be OK if I get power at the pump connection????

I think that on the other post that was happening also - there was 12v getting through but not enough power to drive the pump.

post was here.

Well, as I had a spare moment or two I thought I would replace the old washer jets with my nice new Pug 607 ones, gotta be an easy job I thought, as long as I take it easy & don't lose a tube down the back of the dash.....

Hmmm.... not as easy as I though, someone had sealed the jets to the body with some hard setting white sealant stuff, twas like chipping bloody concrete out!

Need I go on .... Result = one washer tube rapidly disappearing behind the dash

Still, I'm waiting for my new heater blower to arrive so the dash is coming out soon anyhow.

From past experience of old cars, I'm going to replace all washer tubing, lube up pump / motor, tidy up rust, redo any earths / dodgy wiring, also going to sort out some new ciggy / usb sockets & the "doesn't quite fit" radio cradle while I've got good access.

Any T25 specific jobs worth adding to the list while I've got the dash out?

I will have a search around on here for dashboard mods as this design is obviously a pain for maintenance... not looked at supplied dash in detail yet, until I've got it off, but logic would point to maybe cutting a large hole in top & securing it with screws / bolts? I'm trying to work out the VW logic in making the dash sloped so you can't put anything on it as well :?

Cheers,
Steve
